I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The firm is tight knit by design. That closeness creates something larger practices simply cannot replicate, namely genuine one-to-one mentorship, direct access to experienced and highly regarded partners and a real say in the direction of the business. Fee earners are actively encouraged to involve themselves in networking, business development and mentoring, creating the opportunity to develop as a well-rounded, commercially aware lawyer rather than simply a biller.
The Role
You will work directly alongside two of the existing partners on a varied and complex caseload of exclusively privately funded family matters, spanning divorces and financial remedy proceedings, children act cases, TOLATA issues and cohabitation disputes for a client base ranging from sports personalities and business owners through to high net worth individuals from across the UK.

Due to the firm's success in developing its client base over the last five years there is a strong and established caseload to inherit from day one, with genuine scope to develop your own practice alongside it. The partnership actively welcomes fresh ideas and input from the wider team, making this an ideal environment for an ambitious lawyer who wants to contribute to something beyond their individual caseload.
