About The Role
We are looking for an experienced SolidWorks Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering and manufacturing business in Witney, Oxfordshire.
This is a hands-on and varied design role for an engineer with strong SolidWorks skills, sound mechanical engineering knowledge and the ability to take designs from initial concept through to prototype and production.
A key focus of the role will be complex 3D modelling and surfacing, including compound curves and advanced geometry. Strong SolidWorks modelling and surfacing skills are therefore essential.
You will work closely with Engineering, CNC Machining and Production teams to develop practical, accurate and production-ready designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed 3D mechanical designs and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Create complex surfaces, compound curves and advanced 3D geometry.
- Produce accurate and fully toleranced manufacturing drawings.
- Apply GD&T and appropriate engineering drawing standards.
- Design components for CNC machining and production.
- Consider materials, finishes, tolerances and manufacturing processes during the design process.
- Work closely with CNC Machining, Assembly and Engineering teams.
- Develop products from concept through to prototype and production.
- Identify and resolve design challenges to ensure functional and manufacturable solutions.
- Maintain accurate CAD files, engineering documentation and Bills of Materials.
- Manage engineering data through PDM/MRP systems.
- Support prototype development using 3D scanning and 3D printing where appropriate.
- Contribute to product improvements and wider engineering development projects.

Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum 5 years' professional mechanical design engineering experience.
- Strong and demonstrable SolidWorks experience.
- Advanced SolidWorks modelling and surfacing skills.
- Proven experience designing complex geometry, surfaces and compound curves.
- Experience using PDM or product data management systems.
- Strong understanding and practical application of GD&T.
- Good knowledge of mechanical engineering principles.
- Understanding of CNC machining and Design for Manufacture.
- Knowledge of engineering materials, finishes and manufacturing processes.
- Proven ability to take ownership of design projects through to production.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering and production team.
Desirable Experience
- HNC, HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience using FEA to assess and optimise components.
- Experience with prototype development and product testing.
- Familiarity with MRP systems and BOM management.
- Experience using 3D scanning and 3D printing.
- Experience working on performance-critical or technically demanding products.
- Previous experience within automotive, motorsport or specialist engineering.
- Knowledge or experience of suspension or shock absorber design.

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who takes pride in producing high-quality work and enjoys solving complex engineering challenges.
You will have excellent attention to detail, a practical approach to design and a strong understanding of how designs translate into real-world manufacturing.
Most importantly, you will have strong mechanical design experience, exceptional SolidWorks skills and the confidence to work with complex geometry.
