Technical Architect
We seek a solution-driven technical architect to influence and drive networking and communications standards. You will have outstanding knowledge of user services, networking, and bearers and a good understanding of security.
The ideal candidate is a passionate, self-sufficient solutions expert with excellent communication skills, capable of interacting effectively at all levels. This role involves delivering solutions, understanding how to test improvement benefits, and identifying issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Documenting design and testing aspects; identifying benefits, issues, and recommendations for the next steps.
- Working with the Project team to interpret statements or requirements and recreate responses.
- Designing technological solutions that meet requirements, leveraging existing in-service applications, platforms, and standards. Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure high-quality outcomes.
- Ensuring solutions comply with standards and guidelines set by governance bodies such as Information Security and Data Protection.
- Leading infrastructure, development, and project teams to implement solutions as designed and actively participating in sprint planning and retrospectives.
- Presenting at Technical Design Authority forums to secure approval from relevant stakeholders, including colleagues and customers.
- Reviewing solutions proposed by peers and offering constructive feedback.
- Leading non-functional evaluations of new applications and platforms, assessing the benefits and risks, and recommending the most suitable options.
- Qualifying vendors - based on product quality, support, skills, and capabilities.

Skills and Experience
Applicants must be entitled to work in the UK.
- Good understanding of engineering tools, standard practices, techniques, and methodologies for delivering complex systems and solutions, including modern deployment models (e.g. agile development, CI/CD, etc.).
- Infrastructure and Networking skills are highly sought after. Knowledge of VMware, for example, is highly desirable.
- Experience working as a client-facing consultant in a systems integrator or public sector organisation directly or through a consultancy delivering complex products and services.
- Experience working as a software engineer within IT, infrastructure, networking, or systems.
- Happy in a client-facing capacity and able to relay complex solutions simply to the clients.
- Experience managing client relationships, projects, and technical teams is essential.
- Must be willing and eligible to obtain and maintain SC security clearance as a condition of employment. Applicants should normally have resided in the UK for the previous 5 years, in line with UK Government vetting requirements.

Candidates who are successful in the first round of interviews will be required to submit a minimum two-page report discussing the benefits and challenges of using Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) techniques in Denied, Disrupted, Intermittent and Limited (DDIL) environments. The report will be assessed alongside your application and should demonstrate your technical understanding, analytical skills and written communication.
