Key Responsibilities of an Infrastructure Architect
The core responsibilities blend strategic planning with deep technical expertise.
Architectural Design
- Define the technical architecture for networks, servers, cloud, hybrid platforms, and storage solutions.
- This includes creating high-level and low-level design diagrams and detailed documentation.
Strategy and Alignment
- Review infrastructure requirements.
- Assess existing systems for efficacy and security.
- Align all architectural decisions with the organization's business needs.
IT Strategy and Long-Term Vision
- Design and implement high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions to ensure business continuity and system resilience against failures or outages.
Technology Selection
- Evaluate, select, and recommend technologies, tools, and frameworks for major infrastructure projects, including cloud providers, hardware, software-defined networking, and virtualization.

Required Skills and Qualifications
Technical Expertise
- Deep Infrastructure Knowledge: Extensive experience, typically 8 plus years, in systems, networks, or engineering roles.
Cloud Computing
- Strong knowledge of public, private, and hybrid cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud.
Networking
- Expertise in networking protocols, load balancing, firewalls, DNS, and WAN/LAN design.
Virtualization
- Proficiency with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, and containerization such as Docker, Kubernetes.
Automation
- DevOps Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), configuration management such as Ansible, Terraform, and DevOps principles.
