Solution Architect – API & GCP
Edinburgh / Hybrid – 2–3 days per week
£85,000–£95,000 + Benefits

We’re working with an excellent brand looking for an experienced Solution Architect with strong expertise across API architecture and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You’ll play a key role in shaping enterprise-scale digital solutions, owning architectural decisions and working closely with Product, Engineering and business stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable and resilient platforms.
Role and Responsibilities
- Define and own end-to-end solution architecture across API and cloud environments
- Lead architectural decisions and provide technical direction across complex programmes
- Design scalable, secure and resilient cloud-native solutions using GCP
- Define API architecture, integration patterns and technical standards
- Work closely with Product, Engineering and business stakeholders to shape technology roadmaps
- Provide technical leadership through architecture and design governance
- Assess technology options and provide clear recommendations to senior stakeholders
- Ensure solutions meet security, resilience, scalability, performance and governance requirements
- Support the adoption of modern engineering and cloud-native practices

Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Strong commercial experience as a Solution Architect within complex enterprise environments
- Excellent Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience
- Strong API architecture and API management expertise
- Experience with Apigee, Kong, IBM API Connect or Azure API Management
- Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, API security and lifecycle management
- Experience designing cloud-native and microservices architectures
- Knowledge of event-driven architecture and modern integration patterns
- Experience influencing architectural direction and technology decisions
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

Desirable
- Azure and/or AWS experience
- Hybrid or multi-cloud architecture experience
- Experience within highly regulated enterprise environments
- Exposure to Generative AI and AI-enabled solutions
- Experience with enterprise-scale transformation programmes
