Technical Solution Architect – Data Engineering & Energy
Location: London, UK – Hybrid
Contract: Part-Time, 2 days per week
Role Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Technical Solution Architect with a strong background in data engineering, data architecture and solution design, ideally combined with experience in the energy, commodities or trading sector.
The role will work closely with CTO-level stakeholders and technical teams to translate business and data requirements into scalable, implementable technical solutions.
This is a technically focused architecture role. We are particularly interested in candidates who have hands-on experience designing data platforms, pipelines, integrations and engineering solutions rather than profiles focused primarily on business analysis or delivery management.
Key Responsibilities
- Design end-to-end technical and data architectures, from data ingestion and processing through to integration and consumption.
- Define solution architecture, target-state designs, data flows, interfaces and integration patterns.
- Design and support data engineering solutions, ETL/ELT pipelines and data integrations.
- Work with technologies such as SSIS and other modern data engineering/integration platforms.
- Define technical requirements, architecture standards and non-functional requirements.
- Work closely with engineering and DevOps teams across CI/CD, deployment and operational readiness.
- Produce technical architecture artefacts including HLDs, solution diagrams, data-flow diagrams and integration designs.
- Assess technical feasibility, scalability, security and performance.
- Engage directly with CTO-level stakeholders and communicate architecture decisions, technical trade-offs and recommendations.
- Support data and AI/ML initiatives by ensuring the underlying architecture and engineering environment can support production use cases.
- Facilitate technical architecture and design workshops.

Must-Have Experience
- Strong hands-on Solution Architecture, Technical Architecture or Data Architecture experience.
- Strong Data Engineering background.
- Hands-on experience with SSIS, ETL/ELT and data pipelines.
- Strong understanding of data architecture, data modelling and system integration.
- Experience designing APIs, interfaces and system/data flows.
- Experience with DevOps and CI/CD environments.
- Proven ownership of architecture and solution design, including HLDs and technical design documentation.
- Ability to work directly with CTOs, engineering leadership and senior technical stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management and technical workshop facilitation skills.

Highly Desirable
- Energy, utilities, commodities or trading-sector experience.
- Energy pricing, market data or trading data experience.
- Experience with ETRM/CTRM environments.
- Azure data technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Databricks or Synapse.
- Cloud architecture experience across Azure, AWS or GCP.
- Practical exposure to AI/ML-enabled solutions and the underlying data architecture required to support them.
