Purpose
The Solution Design Engineer is responsible for the development, governance, and delivery of innovative healthcare technology solutions across customer accounts, healthcare construction projects, and digital transformation programs. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the successful design, implementation, and ongoing evolution of integrated technology solutions that support clinical workflows, enhance patient safety, and improve operational efficiency.
This is an exciting opportunity for a technically skilled professional with experience in healthcare technology, construction project environments, and digital design delivery to help shape the future of connected healthcare solutions.
A key aspect of the role is leading and developing Ascom UK's BIM strategy, promoting best practice, and ensuring BIM and ISO 19650-compliant information management processes are embedded within project delivery. You will act as a subject matter expert, sharing knowledge across the wider business and supporting teams to deliver coordinated, compliant, and high-quality design solutions.
What You'll Be Doing
Customer Account & Solution Strategy
- Build strong, long-term relationships with customers & strategic partners
- Develop & maintain customer technology roadmaps & solution strategies
- Support strategic account planning, business development, and tender activities
- Ensure solutions align with customer requirements, organizational objectives, and product roadmaps
- Contribute to the development of best-in-class design deliverables & service delivery standards
Solution Design & Technical Engineering
You will be responsible for designing integrated healthcare technology solutions including:
- Nurse Call Systems
- Clinical Communication Platforms
- Staff Safety Solutions
- DECT & Wireless Systems
- Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS)
- Alarm Management Solutions
- Healthcare Messaging Systems
- Safe Building Technologies
- Software and Integration Platforms

You will also:
- Create functional and technical solution designs
- Produce Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical specifications, and equipment schedules
- Develop system architecture diagrams and network designs
- Define integration requirements and comprehensive design documentation
- Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, & fit for purpose
Healthcare Construction & Digital Delivery
- Support healthcare technology projects through all applicable RIBA design stages
- Coordinate designs with architects, contractors, M&E consultants, ICT providers, and specialist suppliers
- Review architectural, services, and construction drawings and specifications
- Participate in technical workshops, project reviews, and design coordination meetings
- Ensure technology infrastructure integrates effectively with building services and construction requirements
BIM & Digital Engineering
- Support BIM and digital engineering processes across healthcare projects
- Promote ISO 19650 compliant information management practices
- Assist with model coordination, information delivery planning, and digital design reviews
- Contribute to BIM Execution Plans and digital delivery processes
- Ensure design information complies with project standards and information management requirements
Risk Compliance & Quality
- Identify and mitigate technical and solution-related risks
- Ensure designs meet cybersecurity, clinical safety, and applicable regulatory requirements
- Support product upgrades, software releases, and technology change programs
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Work in accordance with Health & Safety, Environmental, Information Security, and Quality Management requirements

Essential
Experience & Qualifications

Associate Degree, HND, or equivalent engineering, IT, or telecommunications qualification

3-5 years experience in a customer-facing technical engineering or solution design role

3-5 years experience working with:
- Networking equipment
- Healthcare technology solutions
- Construction Environment

Experience developing technical solution designs and associated documentation

Experience providing customer technical support and consultancy services
Desirable
- Experience supporting UK healthcare construction projects
- Experience with BIM-enabled projects
- Knowledge of ISO 19650 information management processes
- AutoCAD proficiency
- BIM certification or demonstrable practical experience
