Overview

As a Solution Engineer – Apps & AI, you will help organisations accelerate innovation by modernising applications, adopting AI-powered solutions, and building intelligent digital experiences that drive business value.

Working alongside account teams, specialists, partners, and customer stakeholders, you will engage throughout the customer transformation journey, from strategy and envisioning through technical validation, deployment, and adoption. You will combine deep technical expertise with business acumen to design and demonstrate solutions that help customers modernise applications, improve developer productivity, integrate AI capabilities, and unlock new opportunities for growth and efficiency.

You'll work with technology leaders, architects, developers, engineering teams, and business decision-makers to showcase how Microsoft's Apps & AI platform, including Azure AI, Azure App Services, Containers, Kubernetes, Developer Tools, GitHub, Power Platform, Copilot technologies, and Intelligent Applications, can help organisations modernise, innovate, and achieve measurable outcomes.

This role offers the opportunity to work with customers across a broad range of industries, supporting their application transformation, AI adoption, and digital innovation initiatives.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Technical Sales Leadership

  • Lead strategic technical customer engagements focused on application modernization, AI solutions, developer productivity, and intelligent applications.
  • Deliver compelling demonstrations, workshops, architecture reviews, envisioning sessions, and proof-of-concept engagements.
  • Translate customer business challenges into modern application and AI solution architectures.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor throughout the sales and adoption lifecycle, orchestrating virtual teams of specialists, architects, customer success resources, and partners.
  • Drive technical strategy and solution design for complex customer opportunities.

Application Modernization

  • Help customers modernise legacy and existing applications using cloud-native architectures and modern development practices.
  • Guide customers through architectural decisions involving web applications, APIs, microservices, containers, Kubernetes, event-driven architectures, and serverless technologies.
  • Design scalable, reliable, secure, and resilient application platforms that support current and future business requirements.
  • Support customers in adopting DevOps, GitOps, platform engineering, and modern software delivery practices.
  • Demonstrate best practices for application lifecycle management, observability, performance optimisation, and operational excellence.

AI & Intelligent Applications

  • Design and position AI-powered solutions that enable new business capabilities and user experiences.
  • Help customers integrate generative AI, copilots, agents, and intelligent workflows into existing and new applications.
  • Guide customers in grounding AI solutions on enterprise data to enable secure, responsible, and context-aware AI experiences.
  • Demonstrate how Azure AI services, AI Foundry, Copilot technologies, and developer tools can accelerate innovation and productivity.
  • Support customers in implementing Responsible AI principles, governance, security, and compliance requirements.

Solution Design & Architecture

  • Design end-to-end solutions using Azure application services, containers, APIs, integration technologies, data platforms, and AI capabilities.
  • Guide customers in building scalable, secure, and maintainable application architectures across cloud-native and hybrid environments.
  • Help customers modernise development processes and improve engineering effectiveness through automation and AI-assisted development.
  • Support customers in adopting modern security, governance, and identity practices using Microsoft security and management platforms.
  • Develop reference architectures and technical guidance that enable successful customer outcomes.

Customer & Market Engagement

  • Develop a deep understanding of customer priorities, business challenges, and transformation goals.
  • Connect Microsoft technology capabilities to tangible business outcomes and strategic objectives.
  • Share emerging technology trends, AI innovation, application development practices, and market insights with customers and internal teams.
  • Act as a technology advocate, helping customers understand and adopt modern application and AI solutions.

Sales & Business Impact

  • Partner with account teams and specialists to drive Apps & AI pipeline growth and accelerate customer decision-making.
  • Contribute technical strategy to key opportunities and support deal execution.
  • Identify opportunities for application modernization, AI adoption, developer productivity, and cloud transformation.
  • Capture customer feedback and competitive insights to strengthen Microsoft's market position.
  • Influence technical and business stakeholders to build consensus around Microsoft solutions.

Team & Community Contribution

  • Mentor and coach Solution Engineers and technical peers.
  • Share technical knowledge, best practices, reusable assets, and proven approaches across the organisation.
  • Contribute intellectual property, technical content, customer success stories, and community engagements.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, learning, and customer obsession.
  • Continuously develop expertise in emerging application development, cloud, and AI technologies.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Must be legally authorised to work in the United Kingdom to be eligible for this role (Legally authorised = has citizenship or has been granted a valid visa or work permit)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in technical pre-sales, solution architecture, software engineering, consulting, cloud engineering, or related technical roles.
  • Experience designing, building, or helping customers adopt modern application platforms and cloud technologies.
  • Experience engaging with both technical and business stakeholders in customer-facing environments.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences.

Technical Experience

  • Experience with modern application development platforms, frameworks, and software engineering practices.
  • Understanding of cloud-native architectures including APIs, microservices, containers, Kubernetes, and serverless platforms.
  • Experience with application modernization strategies and migration approaches.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, platform engineering, and developer productivity solutions.
  • Familiarity with AI technologies, generative AI, copilots, agents, and intelligent applications.
  • Experience with Azure services, GitHub, developer tools, integration technologies, and application platforms.
  • Understanding of application security, governance, identity, compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Ability to architect solutions that balance scalability, resilience, security, performance, and cost.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting enterprise customers through digital transformation initiatives.
  • Experience with application modernization, cloud migration, and transformation programs.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure, GitHub, Kubernetes, Containers, Power Platform, or comparable cloud and development technologies.
  • Experience with AI solutions, machine learning, generative AI, copilots, agents, and intelligent applications
  • Experience delivering technical workshops, proofs of concept, hackathons, and architecture design sessions.
  • Relevant Microsoft or industry certifications in cloud, AI, development, architecture, or security technologies.
  • Experience working in collaborative sales, engineering, and customer success environments.

Solution Engineering IC2

  • The typical base pay range for this role across United Kingdom is £ 36,600.00 - £ 63,000.00 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
