About The Role
The Solution Design Manager provides end-to-end technical leadership, governance and assurance across all design disciplines, ensuring Boldyn’s connectivity solutions are technically robust, buildable, compliant and commercially optimised.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, this role owns the technical design integrity and multi-disciplinary coordination of Boldyn’s system designs across Enterprise, Offshore, Private Networks, Venues, Special Events, Wi-Fi and NHIB programmes.
Acting as the Technical Design Authority (TDA) and the Principal Designer (PD) under CDM 2015 or equivalent safety regulations, the Solution Design Manager ensures design risk is proactively managed and that all engineering activities comply with statutory duties, safety regulations and Boldyn’s internal governance frameworks.
The role integrates radio, M&E, civil and structural disciplines into cohesive, safe and efficient solutions.
This position bridges engineering assurance with delivery readiness - aligning design intent with practical implementation.
The Solution Design Manager drives technical certainty, proactive risk control and a right-first-time ethos across the design lifecycle, supporting high performance in safety, quality and delivery.
What You’ll Be Doing
Technical Leadership & Design Authority
- Act as Technical Design Authority (TDA) for assigned projects, accountable for design quality, technical coherence, buildability and compliance.
- Lead multi-disciplinary design integration, aligning radio, M&E, civil, structural and architectural elements into viable / value engineered solutions.
- Provide strategic technical oversight and assurance across all design outputs, ensuring adherence to standards, client scope and programme objectives.
- Ensure that system designs are spatially, structurally, and electrically viable within physical constraints (MERs, risers, containment routes and rooftop structures).
- Approve final design deliverables including concept designs, detailed designs and as-built documentation.
- Approve final technical documentation, including concept designs, high level designs, detailed designs and as-built packages.
- Maintain Boldyn’s technical frameworks, templates and QA protocols, ensuring consistent quality across all design teams and delivery partners.
- Produce, collate and report own areas Engineering KPIs

CDM & Regulatory Compliance
- Undertake Principal Designer (PD) duties under CDM 2015 or equivalent safety regulations where required, ensuring design risk is identified, mitigated and communicated throughout the project lifecycle.
- Oversee preparation and maintenance of pre-construction information, design risk registers and statutory documentation.
- Ensure design compliance with Quality and Regulatory frameworks and Standards including ISO standards, ICNIRP, Ofcom, Building Control and Planning regulations.
- Embed “Safety by Design” principles, ensuring systems are safe to build and maintain
Cross-Functional Integration & Programme Support
- Collaborate closely with Lead Delivery Managers, Programme Managers, Senior Project Managers and Commercial teams to align design strategies with cost, schedule and operational objectives.
- Support project planning, build and handover through structured technical assurance and design validation.
- Coordinate input from specialist consultants (structural, M&E, fire, acoustic, environmental) to ensure design completeness and build feasibility.
- Partner with Pre-sales, Commercial and Finance teams to review feasibility designs, validate design budgets, evaluate value engineering options and ensure cost efficiency.
- Lead Design engagement with external stakeholders such as Customers, Deployment partners.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead and mentor Senior Design Engineers and Design Engineers, ensuring structured technical development and consistency across all engineering outputs.
- Support recruitment, training and performance development within the engineering team.
- Foster collaboration, accountability and a culture of innovation across the design function.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Champion innovation in design efficiency, sustainability, digital engineering and process improvement.
- Drive standardisation and scalability across projects, embedding continuous learning through lessons learned and best-practice application.
- Lead initiatives that enhance design quality and reduce delivery risk across the engineering lifecycle
What You’ll Bring
Essential:
- Experience in telecoms, wireless or related infrastructure design.
- Proven capability in integrating RF, M&E and civil/structural disciplines into cohesive solutions.
- Demonstrable experience as Technical Design Authority (TDA) and/or Principal Designer under CDM 2015.
- Familiarity with UK design standards, including Building Regulations and BS 7671.
- Experience working with specialist design consultants and multi-discipline project teams.
- Track record of developing innovative designs and sustainable solution integration.
- Proficiency with design tools including iBwave, Visio and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Skilled communicator with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven record of mentoring, team leadership and technical development.

- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working toward accreditation.
