Solutions Architect – Secure Communications
Reference: BH-400c
Job Type: Contract – Inside IR35
Contract Length: 12 months, with strong possibility of extension
Location: Hybrid – 3 days in Corsham / Other UK Sites
About the Role
Our client is looking for an experienced Solutions Architect to support the design and modernisation of highly secure communications environments.
The role will focus on communications architecture, secure IP networking, and the transition of established systems onto modern network-based infrastructure. You will provide technical direction, develop architecture and design documentation, and work with stakeholders across complex, security-sensitive environments.
This is a highly specialised position requiring previous experience with military or equivalent secure communications systems.
Responsibilities
- Design secure communications and messaging architectures for complex operational environments.
- Develop solutions for migrating established communications platforms onto IP-based networks.
- Produce high-level and detailed technical designs, architecture documents, and supporting specifications.
- Provide architectural guidance around IP networking, cryptographic technologies, and secure communications.
- Incorporate appropriate cross-domain, gateway, and identity/security controls into solution designs.
- Ensure architectures support interoperability with partner and allied communications environments.
- Assess existing systems and recommend appropriate modernisation and migration approaches.
- Engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders, providing independent architectural advice.
- Identify architectural risks, dependencies, and technical constraints throughout delivery.

Key Experience
- Strong experience working with military communications or comparable highly secure communications environments.
- Strong knowledge of IP networking architecture and cryptographic technologies.
- Experience designing and migrating legacy communications infrastructure to IP-based networks.
- Experience with secure military messaging architectures and protocols such as STANAG 4406, STANAG 5066, and ACP127.
- Knowledge of relevant defence communications standards, including JSP 604 and JSP 453.
- Understanding of Cross-Domain Solutions, secure gateways, and PKI-based security.
- Experience working with NATO or allied interoperability requirements.
- Ability to produce both high-level and low-level architecture and technical design documentation.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and technical advisory experience.

Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of maritime or tactical communications environments.
- Experience managing or designing around cryptographic hardware lifecycles.
- Familiarity with CCEB or Five Eyes communications standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Interview Process
The selection process will consist of two stages:
- Short initial video interview.
- Face-to-face interview, with no presentation required.
