Solution Architect (AWS / Integration / Cloud)

We're partnering with a leading organisation in the UK rail sector that is undergoing significant digital transformation and investing heavily in modern, customer-facing technology platforms.

As part of a growing architecture function, they're seeking an experienced Solution Architect to help shape and deliver cloud-first solutions across a range of business-critical systems and services that support millions of rail passengers and industry stakeholders.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong architect with a background in software engineering, cloud technologies and systems integration who enjoys working across both strategy and delivery.

The Opportunity

As a Solution Architect, you'll be responsible for designing end-to-end solutions that meet business requirements while ensuring scalability, resilience, security and operational excellence.

You'll work closely with business stakeholders, delivery teams, engineers and third-party suppliers to define architecture, evaluate technologies and guide projects from concept through to successful implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and govern end-to-end solution architectures across multiple programmes and digital products
  • Translate business and technical requirements into scalable solution designs
  • Lead technical evaluations, proof of concepts and vendor assessments
  • Produce architecture documentation and design artefacts
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, security and project delivery teams
  • Ensure solutions align with architecture standards, governance and best practice
  • Support successful implementation and operational transition of new services
  • Contribute to future technology strategy and roadmap planning

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience as a Solution Architect, Technical Architect or similar architecture-focused role
  • Strong background in software development, application engineering or systems integration
  • Experience designing solutions within AWS and/or Azure environments
  • Strong understanding of API-led architecture and integration patterns
  • Experience with enterprise messaging technologies such as Kafka, ActiveMQ or similar
  • Knowledge of Identity & Access Management solutions, including Microsoft Entra ID
  • Understanding of application security, network security and modern cloud architectures
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • AWS certifications
  • TOGAF or other architecture framework certifications
  • Experience within complex enterprise or regulated environments
  • Exposure to data and analytics platforms
  • Experience supporting large-scale digital transformation programmes
