Careers at TCS: It means more
TCS is a purpose-led transformation company, built on belief. We do not just help businesses to transform through technology. We support them in making a meaningful difference to the people and communities they serve - our clients include some of the biggest brands in the UK and worldwide. For you, it means more to make an impact that matters, through challenging projects which demand ambitious innovation and thought leadership.
- It means more predictable UK telecom transformations, by aligning complex BSS/OSS architectures and Lead‑to‑Cash processes with secure, standards‑compliant end‑to‑end solution designs.
- It means faster and more confident service evolution, enabling scalable, API‑led architectures that support high‑volume Voice and Broadband services across UK B2C markets.
- It means stronger return on transformation investments, through early architectural risk mitigation, delivery‑aligned designs, and consistent adherence to enterprise and regulatory expectations.
The Role
The NGIN Telecom Solution Architect role is critical for the design, governance, and evolution of Next Generation Intelligent Network (NGIN) platforms that support business-critical telecommunications services and customer solutions.
The position provides strategic architecture leadership across platform modernisation, legacy network transformation, service integration, and operational risk management, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and continuity of telecom services.
Your responsibilities:
- Define, own, and govern the end-to-end architecture of NGIN platforms supporting business-critical telecommunications services, ensuring alignment with enterprise and business objectives.
- Lead the design and evolution of telecom service platforms, including Intelligent Network (IN), service control, charging, provisioning, mediation, and integration components across the telecom ecosystem.
- Develop solution architectures for new products, services, and network transformation initiatives while ensuring scalability, resilience, availability, and security requirements are met.
- Provide technical leadership for the modernization and rationalization of legacy telecom platforms, supporting strategic transformation and migration programmes.
- Assess current-state architectures, identify technical debt, and define target-state roadmaps that improve operational efficiency, service stability, and business agility.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, network engineering teams, vendors, and delivery partners to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Produce and maintain architecture artefacts including solution designs, high-level and low-level designs, technology roadmaps, interface specifications, and architectural standards.
- Ensure the integration of NGIN platforms with OSS/BSS systems, CRM platforms, billing systems, customer channels, and external partner ecosystems.
- Provide architecture governance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with enterprise architecture principles, regulatory requirements, security policies, and operational standards.
- Act as the technical authority for NGIN-related solutions, providing expert guidance on platform capabilities, technology selection, solution feasibility, and risk mitigation.
- Support incident resolution, problem management, and root cause analysis activities for critical telecom services, ensuring minimal impact on customers and business operations.
- Lead architecture reviews, technical assurance activities, and design approvals to ensure solution quality and consistency across programmes.
- Identify opportunities for service improvement, automation, simplification, and cost optimization across telecom platforms and operational processes.
- Support capacity planning, resilience assessments, disaster recovery strategies, and performance optimization initiatives to maintain service reliability.
- Mentor engineering and design teams, promote best practices, and facilitate knowledge sharing to strengthen organizational capability and reduce dependency on key individuals.
- Provide strategic input into technology investment decisions, vendor evaluations, platform upgrades, and long-term telecommunications transformation roadmaps.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
