Solutions Architect / Designer - SQL / Insurance
Ideally 21 September 2026 – flexibility of c.2 weeks for the right person Long-term programme, expected to run through to approximately September 2027 £600/day target | Up to £700/day depending on experience Hybrid – expectation of approximately 1 day per week in London, ideally up to 2 particularly during onboarding.
We are looking for a highly technical, hands-on Solution Architect to join a major insurance data transformation programme.
You'll be responsible for taking business requirements and source data, understanding how that data needs to be represented within the target architecture, and then expressing the design through production-oriented SQL that can be handed directly to Data Engineers for implementation.
The programme is moving from its initial design phase into scale and delivery, so we're looking for somebody who can quickly understand an established architecture, work within agreed patterns and deliver high-quality designs at pace.
Your role has two core components:
1. Analysis
You'll take requirements and investigate the underlying source data to understand it sufficiently to design the required solution.
This means getting hands-on with the data, querying it, understanding its structure and behaviour, validating assumptions and determining how it should map into the target model.

2. Design
You'll then turn that understanding into the actual solution design. The programme follows an architecture comparable to a Bronze → Silver → Gold Medallion Architecture, with this role primarily focused on the transformation into the standardised/conformed silver layer.
Rather than handing developers lengthy design documents, you'll express the core transformation and business logic through SQL.
The Data Engineers will then take that SQL and turn it into fully engineered, production-grade dbt workloads.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse source data to understand its structure, relationships and business meaning.
- Translate business requirements into practical data designs.
- Design transformations from source/bronze data into the conformed silver layer.
- Write sophisticated SQL representing the required business and transformation logic.
- Prototype and validate designs directly against real data.
- Design and build the logical foundations of source-to-target adapters.
- Work closely with Source System Analysts to understand unfamiliar source systems.
- Hand validated SQL and designs to Data Engineers for productionisation.
- Support engineers during implementation and resolve modelling/design issues.
- Work within an established architectural pattern rather than redesigning the platform.
- Deliver high-quality work at pace as the programme scales across multiple delivery squads.

Essential Skills
- Exceptional SQL
- Data / Solution Design
- Strong experience designing data solutions and translating requirements and source data into practical target models.
- A deep understanding of Medallion Architecture and the purpose of Bronze, Silver and Gold layers is essential.
- You'll need to understand how raw/source data should be transformed into a standardised and conformed data model.
- Data Modelling
- Strong understanding of data modelling, including the ability to design models that work against real-world data rather than purely producing conceptual diagrams.
- We're looking for somebody who can take a complex data problem, break it down logically and communicate the solution clearly.
