Role: Solutions Architect
Location: Cardiff
Working pattern: Hybrid (c. 1 day per week on site)
Salary: Circa £64,000 per annum + benefits
If you’re a strong lead/senior engineer with a data focus and want to step into a defined architectural and line-management role then this could be for you.
Our client is looking for experience with integrations and data to help modernise how data moves between systems, partners and regulators.
You’ll lead a small team of 3–4 (developers and another senior/architect-level colleague), define simple, standard patterns for integrations, and remain practical and close to the code. Data could include CSV/Excel, legacy flat files, SQL replication, direct DB connections and some APIs.
This job is to help the business move towards a modern, event-driven, cloud-based architecture.
Tools Used
- Cloud: AWS as the primary platform; some Azure; legacy AS/400 iSeries.
- Databases: SQL Server, Oracle, DB2.
- Architecture: event-driven integrations using EventBridge, Lambda, Step Functions.
- Data: central data warehouse for analytics and auditing of integration events.
- AI tooling: AWS Q and AWS Codewhisperer to accelerate development and problem-solving.

Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a 3–4 person integration/data team.
- Design and roll out standard integration patterns.
- Build integrations between systems and third parties using: AWS EventBridge, Lambda and Step Functions existing mechanisms where needed (files, SQL, legacy formats).
- Work closely with 2–3 other architects and a 12–15 person dev team (plus two other dev teams of 6–10) to ensure consistent approaches.
- Help extend and feed our central data warehouse so the business can access clean, unified data.
- Balance modernisation with the need for accuracy and reliability in a highly visible environment.
Experience needed
Essential
- Strong database and data modelling skills (relational DBs such as SQL Server, Oracle or DB2).
- Programming experience in at least one modern language (e.g. Python, Node.js, JavaScript).
- Integration / ETL / data-warehouse work.
- Proven technical leadership.
- Comfortable guiding other developers and owning technical decisions.
Desirable (training provided where needed)
- Exposure to cloud platforms, especially AWS or Azure.
- Event-driven or message-based systems.
- Defining technical standards or patterns for teams.
- Any prior architecture experience (even informally as a tech lead).
