ATM Solutions Architect
Location: UK (London, Edinburgh or Bristol)
Rate/Salary: £700-775/day
Duration: 6 months initially
The opportunity
A major UK retail bank is bringing a newly acquired ATM and self-service estate onto its existing managed service platform. It's one of the largest self-service channel integrations in UK banking in recent years, and the bank needs an experienced ATM Solutions Architect to design how it happens.
You'll own the target architecture for the combined estate. This is a hands-on design role, not remote governance. You'll work across the bank's channel and technology teams, its managed service provider, and the programme delivering the integration.
What you'll do
- Define the target state architecture for a multi-vendor ATM and deposit estate moving onto an outsourced ATM-as-a-Service model
- Produce high-level and low-level designs covering terminal software, XFS integration, transaction switching and processing, monitoring and security
- Design the migration approach: sequencing, cutover, dual-running, rollback, and rationalisation where estates overlap
- Define the architectural boundary between bank and managed service provider, including security responsibilities, key management and SLA-critical integration points
- Assess the incoming estate, including device mix, OS and software versions, security posture and technical debt, and shape the remediation plan
- Act as design authority for self-service channel changes through the integration, working closely with programme leadership, vendors and risk and compliance teams

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Why this role
