Solutions Design Engineer - Transport Solutions - Fixed Term Contract (June 2027)

Field Based

To £60,000 per annum, plus car / car allowance, 33 days holiday, pension, life assurance, employee assistance programme, wellbeing support, and flexible benefits scheme

About the Role

We are seeking a highly analytical and forward-thinking Solutions Design Engineer - Transport to focus on strategy and performance. The purpose of the role is to provide high-quality end-to-end Transport solutions across the sectors, for new business growth, for existing customer innovations, and for strategic projects. This is not a daily scheduling role; instead, you will be the analytical engine of our Transport team, focused on medium-to-long-term optimisation. You will delve into our data to find efficiencies, model future scenarios, and support projects that will define the future of our transport operations.

As part of your key responsibilities, you’ll:

  • Analyse historical transport data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for network improvement. Model the impact of potential changes, such as new depot locations, different routing strategies, or shifts in delivery patterns.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on a suite of strategic Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) covering cost, service, and sustainability. Go beyond daily metrics to analyse cost-to-serve, asset utilisation, and environmental impact.
  • Act as a key analytical resource for continuous improvement initiatives. Provide the data and insights needed to build business cases for new technologies, process changes, and strategic projects.
  • Support the Solution Design and Business Development teams by providing essential data analysis for new client tenders and solution reviews. Evaluate the potential of emerging technologies and alternative fuels.
  • Analyse the performance of our partner carriers against agreed service levels and cost benchmarks. Support strategic carrier reviews by providing objective, data-driven insights to foster partnership and drive improvement.
  • Investigate recurring operational challenges by analysing performance data to identify the underlying causes and recommend sustainable, long-term solutions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
