SOMERSET HALL VENUE LEAD (CONTRACT)

Hours
Approximately 37 hours per week, worked flexibly to meet operational requirements, including some evening and weekend working.

Portishead Town Council is seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced individuals to support the mobilisation and operational transition of Somerset Hall.
The Council is preparing to assume operational responsibility for Somerset Hall and requires dedicated resource to establish the systems, staffing, procedures and arrangements necessary to ensure successful operation of the venue.
The postholder will play a key role in venue mobilisation, operational readiness and the establishment of Somerset Hall under Town Council management.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and coordinate the mobilisation and operational transition of Somerset Hall.
- Act as a primary operational point of contact for the venue during the transition period.
- Liaise with hirers, community groups, contractors and stakeholders.
- Assist with the recruitment, induction, coordination and supervision of casual venue staff.
- Develop and implement operational procedures and working practices.
- Support the management of bookings, events and customer enquiries.
- Coordinate maintenance, facilities and compliance arrangements.
- Support licensing, health and safety and venue management activities.
- Work with Council officers to increase utilisation and support improvement of the venue.
- Assist in identifying and implementing improvements to support the successful operation of Somerset Hall.

We are looking for an individual with:
- Experience of working in a venue, facilities, community asset or similar customer-facing environment.
- Strong organisational skills and a practical approach to problem solving.
- Experience of dealing with customers, hirers, stakeholders or members of the public.
- Experience of coordinating contractors, suppliers, staff or volunteers.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills.

Desirable
- Experience within a theatre, arts, community, hospitality or events environment.
- Experience of supporting venue operations or event delivery.
- Knowledge of licensing requirements.
- Experience of health and safety, facilities or compliance-related activities.
- Experience of working with community organisations, volunteers or user groups.
