Role Description

The Sound and Lighting Technician is a contract, on-site role based in Manchester. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and striking sound and lighting equipment for events, theater productions, and other live performances. Daily tasks include:

The technician will troubleshoot technical issues during rehearsals and events, coordinate with production and stage management teams, and maintain equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. The role requires consistent on-site presence during rehearsals, performances, and load-in/load-out schedules.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with live sound systems, microphones, mixing consoles, and audio playback equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with stage lighting fixtures, dimming systems, lighting control desks, and basic programming of cues.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting abilities and familiarity with signal flow, cabling, and equipment safety practices.
  • Ability to read and follow technical plans, stage plots, and cue sheets, and to collaborate effectively with directors and production staff.
  • Good physical stamina for lifting equipment, working at height when required, and performing load-in/load-out duties safely.
  • Excellent communication skills, punctuality, and a professional approach to client-facing situations and team collaboration.
  • Prior experience in events, theater, or live performance environments; relevant technical certifications or training are an asset.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and variable schedules in line with production requirements.
