What’s it all about?

This role is a position within a fun, supportive and hard-working Corporate Governance Legal Team, who manage a wide range of commercial contracts, sourcing, outsourcing and real estate as well as governance, board and corporate legal matters. This Team is part of a larger Legal, Ethics and Compliance Department which also includes specialists advising on competition, regulatory, commercial contracts, sourcing and data privacy matters. We pride ourselves on a creative, can-do approach.

The Sourcing Counsel role will report to the Europe Associate General Counsel, and be responsible for providing efficient, effective and high quality legal support for the European business, including complex regulatory sourcing and outsourcing arrangements as well as property and facilities matters. The role works closely with the wider business and legal colleagues across Europe, in affiliates, and in Global Legal.

What We Expect Of You Day To Day…

  • Lead strategic support on a wide range of complex sourcing and outsourcing legal matters across Europe, including regulatory sourcing arrangements for both internal and externally provided services, working with business stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts including sourcing agreements, outsourcing arrangements, service level agreements, and statements of work for the European business.
  • Advise on regulatory requirements applicable to sourcing and outsourcing arrangements, including those imposed by the Bank of England, Financial Conduct Authority, European Central Bank, Dutch National Bank and other European regulators.
  • Support vendor onboarding and ongoing supplier management processes, including due diligence, risk assessments, and contract lifecycle management.
  • Negotiate and advise on property and facilities related legal matters across Visa’s European real estate footprint, including leases, licenses, fit-out agreements and facilities management contracts.
  • Draft, review and advise on a wide range of materials relating to the matters above, including templates, playbooks, contract terms, and guidance notes for the business.
  • Identify the need for external legal advice and engage and manage appropriate external counsel on a range of legal issues across Visa’s Europe Region within restricted budgets.
  • Identify competition/anti-trust, data protection and financial regulatory issues, and when necessary contact and consult with internal members of the Legal and Compliance Department and/or external counsel on these issues.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship building with legal and business partners, working closely with them to ensure advice and contracts accurately reflect business needs and policies as they develop.
  • Build a thorough understanding of the payments industry and Visa’s products and services while seamlessly incorporating them into decisions and advice.
  • Responsible for management of day-to-day sourcing, outsourcing and real estate legal queries.
  • Provide training to identified business areas on law, processes and policies.
  • Proactively contribute to the Legal, Ethics and Compliance Division’s planning, cohesion, consistency in advice, and the general efficiency and effectiveness of the team as a whole.

This is a hybrid role, with attendance in Visa’s London office expected Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday weekly.

Qualifications

What we’re after…

  • Qualified lawyer in England 8-12 years PQE.
  • Strong academics and training.
  • Substantial commercial legal experience with regulated entities, ideally with some within an in-house environment.
  • Substantial experience advising on commercial contracts, sourcing or outsourcing matters, and a keen interest in approaching contract negotiations with a strategic and commercial mindset. Some experience of property legal matters preferred.
  • Strong ability to partner, communicate, and navigate through multiple disciplines and organizational groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team context to facilitate achievement of shared goals in an inclusive and open manner.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a varied and busy workload in a dynamic and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Positive attitude, high level of integrity and intellectual curiosity.
  • Intrinsically motivated and navigates challenges and failure with growth mindset
  • Willingness to approach thorny issues to identify resolutions.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Knowledge of the payments industry (and applicable regulation) or financial services environment, including regulatory outsourcing requirements.
  • Experience using AI tools in a legal environment.
