Sous Chef

Salary: £42,000 per annum
Working pattern: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7am - 3.30pm
Location: London, SW11 4AN
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of a busy canteen-style restaurant operation.
- Help deliver a high-quality breakfast and lunch service for approximately 500 covers per day.
- Manage the smooth running of the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence.
- Supervise and support a team of 3 Chefs and 3 Kitchen Porters, ensuring high standards and productivity.
- Assist with menu development alongside the Head Chef, creating fresh, seasonal, and appealing food offers.
- Maintain all kitchen paperwork, including food safety records, compliance checks, and daily operational documentation.
- Manage stock control, ordering, food costs, and waste in line with company targets.
- Ensure the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, health & safety, and compliance.
- Support the delivery of excellent customer service and a positive dining experience.
- Drive continuous improvement within the kitchen operation and identify opportunities to enhance food quality and efficiency.
- Lead by example, creating a positive, motivated, and professional kitchen culture.

Ideal Candidate
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef within contract catering, workplace dining, hospitality, or a high-volume catering environment.
- Experience working in a large-scale catering operation serving high numbers of customers daily.
- Strong knowledge of back-of-house systems, including stock control, ordering, food safety, compliance, and kitchen administration.
- Previous experience supervising and developing kitchen teams.
- Confident managing day-to-day kitchen operations and deputising for the Head Chef when required.
- Experience with menu planning and development alongside senior culinary leaders.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of food hygiene, HACCP, and health & safety regulations.
- Hands-on, proactive, and passionate about delivering great food and service.
- Strong communication skills with a collaborative and positive approach.
