Sous Chef – Award-Winning Country Pub, Hassocks
We're recruiting for an experienced Sous chef on behalf of a busy, much-loved country pub just outside Brighton, set against the South Downs and known for its multi-award-winning Sunday roasts and entirely fresh food menu. This is a brilliant opportunity to join a growing, ambitious business at exactly the right time.
The pub was taken over just over a year ago, given a stunning refurb, and picked up an industry award for Best Roast Dinner within months of reopening. The business has gone from strength to strength since opening, creating a bustling atmosphere which has been a huge hit with locals and people travelling in. With expansion plans on the horizon, this role offers excellent progression opportunities within the business, in particular for someone ready to step into a Head chef position and take charge of your own kitchen.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
