Job Description
Position Overview:
The Big Easy is seeking a dedicated and skilled Sous Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food, a strong leadership presence, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment. As Sous Chef, you will be instrumental in maintaining high culinary standards while supporting the head chef in managing kitchen operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
- Supervising Kitchen Staff:
- Train, mentor, and oversee the work of line cooks, prep cooks, and kitchen personnel to foster a collaborative environment.
- Managing Daily Kitchen Operations:
- Ensure efficient workflow by coordinating tasks and maintaining a positive work atmosphere.
- Deputizing for the Head Chef:
- Take charge of kitchen operations and staff in the absence of the head chef, ensuring consistency in quality and service.
- Handling Disciplinary Issues:
- Address performance and conduct matters among staff, working closely with the head chef and management to uphold standards.
- Assisting with Staff Scheduling:
- Create and manage work schedules to ensure the kitchen is adequately staffed at all times.

Culinary Expertise and Food Production:
- Overseeing Food Preparation:
- Ensure that food quality, consistency, and presentation meet the restaurant's standards and expectations.
- Assisting with Menu Development:
- Collaborate with the head chef to innovate and refresh menu items, focusing on seasonal ingredients and customer preferences.
- Maintaining High Standards of Food Safety and Hygiene:
- Enforce compliance with health and safety regulations to ensure a safe kitchen environment.
- Managing Inventory and Ordering Supplies:
- Monitor food stock levels, minimize waste, and coordinate ordering supplies to meet kitchen needs.
- Developing and Implementing Recipes:
- Contribute to the creation and refinement of dishes, ensuring they align with the restaurant's culinary vision.

Other Responsibilities:
- Maintaining Kitchen Organization and Cleanliness:
- Uphold a tidy and efficient workspace to support kitchen operations.
- Communicating with Front-of-House Staff:

- Training New Kitchen Employees:
- Onboard new hires, ensuring they comprehend the restaurant’s standards and operational procedures.
- Assisting with Special Events or Catering:
- Support the preparation and execution of special events or catering orders, enhancing the restaurant's offerings.
