Chef Supervisor – HMP Birmingham (Winson Green)
About the Role
To be eligible for this role, you must:
- Have lived in the UK continuously for the past 5 years.
- Possess the legal right to work in the UK.
- Be able to pass full security vetting and DBS checks.
This position involves working within a secure prison environment, directly engaging with offenders and operating in a kitchenset up to cater for enhanced inmates.
Key Responsibilities
As Chef Supervisor at HMP Birmingham (Winson Green), you will:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, overseeing a team of chefs and enhanced inmates to deliver meals three times per day.
- Prepare and ensure the quality of pre-ordered basic menu items.
- Maintain a clean, hygienic kitchen, including correct stock checks.
- Complete all relevant paperwork and due diligence forms.
- Supervise and train enhanced inmates within the kitchen unit.
- Work collaboratively to resolve potential conflict within teams.
- Attend and undertake required training.

Shift Details
- Full-time (35 hours/week)
- 4 days-on, 3 days-off pattern, including every second weekend
- Weekend work is included in this role
- Shift hours (07:30–17:15) with 1 hour free break
- Rarely work evenings after shifts
Pay and benefits are available on days not working weekends, ensuring work-life balance.

Core Requirements
- Successfully passed UK long-term residence requirements (5+ years).
- Ready to undergo and pass full security vetting & DBS checks.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Relevant culinary/cooking qualification.
- Familiarity with large-scale commercial or prison kitchens.
