We’re looking for a talented, ambitious and reliable Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at The Cricketers on the Green in Pirbright.
The Cricketers is a busy village pub with a strong food focus, combining proper pub hospitality with a menu built around great seasonal ingredients, British produce and dishes people genuinely want to come back for.
We also have our own kitchen garden, giving the kitchen team the opportunity to work with produce grown just metres from the kitchen and help shape dishes around what is at its best throughout the year.
We’re now looking for a Sous Chef who wants to play a key role in the next chapter of the kitchen.
The Role
Working closely with our Head Chef, you’ll be an important part of the day-to-day running of the kitchen, helping us deliver consistently excellent food while maintaining the standards, organisation and culture we expect.
You’ll Be Responsible For
- Supporting the Head Chef with the daily running of the kitchen
- Leading services and maintaining consistency when the Head Chef is away
- Preparing and delivering fresh, seasonal food to a high standard
- Helping develop dishes, specials and seasonal menu changes
- Working with produce from our kitchen garden and local suppliers
- Maintaining excellent food safety, cleanliness and kitchen organisation
- Supporting stock control, ordering, portion control and reducing waste
- Helping us achieve strong food GP while never compromising quality
- Training, developing and motivating the kitchen team
- Creating a positive, professional kitchen environment
- Taking real ownership of standards and the guest experience

We’re Looking For Someone Who Is
- A proper cook. Someone who cares about ingredients, seasoning, presentation and the details that make good food great.
- Consistent. Busy Saturday night or quiet Tuesday lunch, the standard should always be the same.
- Organised. You understand that a great service starts long before the first ticket arrives.
- A team player. No egos. We want someone who supports the people around them and helps create a kitchen people enjoy working in.
- Ambitious. This could be a brilliant opportunity for an experienced Sous Chef or a strong Junior Sous ready to take the next step.
- Commercially aware. You understand GP, waste, portion control, labour and the importance of running a successful kitchen as well as a creative one.
