Sous Chef at The Walkers of Whitehall
We’re a central London pub with a serious interest in food. Our menu combines elevated British pub classics with modern European dishes, with fresh, seasonal produce at the heart of what we do. We make almost everything in-house, from our sauces and stocks to our desserts — the bread and ice cream are about as far as we’re prepared to cheat.
We’re looking for a Sous Chef to work closely with our Head Chef and help run the kitchen day to day. You’ll have a genuine influence on our food, from developing new dishes and seasonal menus to maintaining standards and developing the team.
Our ambition is simple: to make The Walkers of Whitehall a proper food institution in Westminster. We’re looking for someone who wants to help us do it.
What we’re looking for
- A genuine passion for food and hospitality
- Strong technical culinary ability
- Culinary training or equivalent professional experience
- A natural team player who enjoys working as part of a brigade
- The ability to lead, motivate and develop a kitchen team
- A stable work history and a track record of progression
- A strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and compliance
- The confidence to take responsibility and make decisions during service
- A 9+ on RateMyChives, not essential, but certainly a bonus

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
