The Role Outline: Your Kitchen at a Glance
As the Sous Chef for our highly anticipated Sheffield opening, you are stepping into a completely blank canvas. This is a rare opportunity to launch our newest location. Working side by side with the Head Chef, you will be the operational backbone of a brand new kitchen, inheriting pristine equipment and helping to train and lead a brand new brigade ready for a massive opening day.
Why Village?
At Village, we do hospitality a little differently. We are all about personality, genuine connections, and creating lively spaces for our guests to work, eat, relax, and play.
We know that opening a new hotel is demanding. It requires resilience, lateral thinking, and a brilliant sense of humour to get through the initial chaos. If you have the culinary sharpness to run a busy pass and the emotional intelligence to support a team through their very first shifts, we will give you the platform to make this kitchen a massive success. Because it really does take a Village.
How the Village Thrives
We live our culture through three simple commitments:
- We Can & We Do: We show up to make a genuine difference and do fantastic work every day, with purpose.
- We Will: Treat each other with respect and dignity. No ego, no drama. We try our best and look out for each other.
- We Care: We care about our impact on guests, the community, and each other.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Your Remit: What You Will Actually Be Doing
We do not just need a great cook; we need a brilliant second in command who thrives on building something from nothing. We trust you to handle:
- The Brigade Build: Supporting the setup. You will partner with the Head Chef to onboard and train your new kitchen staff, creating a culture of support and high standards before the doors even open.
- The Launch Operation: Running the pass. You will lead the kitchen floor through the busy opening weeks, keeping morale incredibly high while delivering flawless volume under pressure.
- The Operational Reality: Protecting the standards. You will meticulously manage daily prep, control stock, and step up to lead the entire kitchen when the Head Chef is off.
- The Absolute Standards: Setting the baseline. You will relentlessly enforce our fresh food specifications and ensure strict EHO and HACCP directives are hardwired into your team's daily routine from day one.
How We Succeed Together
We do not micromanage. It takes a village, so we believe in Ownership & Integrity, giving you the autonomy to solve practical problems on the fly and own your section. We Empower & Elevate our people. If you want Room to Grow, helping to open a new flagship hotel is the ultimate stepping stone to your own Head Chef role within the company.
