Full-time | Classic Community Pub | Welsh Produce | Breakfasts, Lunch & Sunday Roasts

The Discovery is looking for a driven, hands-on Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at one of Cardiff’s best-loved community pubs. We serve a classic, comforting menu built around Welsh products, from proper breakfasts to hearty lunches, pub favourites and standout Sunday roasts. With a sports bar, dining room and relaxed pub lounge, we’re a busy venue with a loyal local following and a real neighbourhood feel.

What's the Role?

As Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef to oversee the daily kitchen operation. You will help supervise the team, coordinate food service and maintain consistently high standards in a busy, fast-paced environment.

  • Supporting the Head Chef with the smooth running of the kitchen
  • Helping lead and motivate the kitchen team during busy services
  • Demonstrating and promoting teamwork within the kitchen
  • Preparing and delivering high-quality food across breakfasts, lunches, pub favourites and Sunday roasts
  • Being committed to delivering first-class service and consistent food quality
  • Maintaining strong operational skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Adhering to health and safety, food hygiene and COSHH procedures at all times
  • Supporting stock control, kitchen organisation and food preparation standards
  • Training and supporting new members of the kitchen team
  • Major events and weekends are a must — this is when the magic happens!

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
