Role type: Full-time, permanent
Location: Based in South Wales (Port Talbot, Cardiff) area, with on-site visits around our South Wales-based operations and suppliers, and some trips to our HQ in Cambridge.

Role description
We're looking for a proactive, hands-on Operations Support Assistant to join our South Wales Hub team as we scale up from early commercial production to full industrial output. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone early on in their career and with big ambition to build a broad foundation in industrial operations and logistics, working alongside and learning directly from our Operations Lead and Logistics Manager.
You'll help oversee the processing of source material once it arrives on site - supporting the Logistics Manager and South Wales Hub Operations Lead to ensure material is processed safely, consistently, and to the quality and volume standards production needs. This is a hands-on, relationship-driven role that combines time in the field with third parties and time working closely with the operations team on-site.
Alongside processing, the role will grow into securing a reliable, growing supply of source material to feed our production operations as we scale from early commercial production to full industrial output. You'll take ownership of building and managing relationships with demolition contractors, waste management companies, and other third parties who supply the concrete waste and recycled feedstock our operations depend on.
You will report to the South Wales Hub Operations Lead, working closely day-to-day with the Logistics Manager, and will be a key part of building out our South Wales Hub team as we grow.
Experience in the cement, concrete, aggregates, steel, or wider heavy industry / recycling sectors is a strong plus, but not essential - what matters most is your willingness to learn fast, get stuck in, and stay organised in a busy, evolving environment.
The position requires frequent travel around South Wales to manage materials and work with our partners. You will be working across a range of environments - construction sites, steelworks, moving mechanical equipment, and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Key objectives 2026-2027:
- Support the Operations Lead and Logistics Manager with routine coordination, data, administration, and scale-up priorities.
- Build a strong understanding of production and logistics operations across South Wales supplier sites.
- Establish reliable tracking and reporting systems for production, logistics, quality, safety, and processing performance.
- Develop a dependable pipeline of source-material suppliers and trusted relationships with demolition and waste-management partners.
- Support safe, consistent material processing while becoming a trusted on-site contact for supplier coordination and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities
Supply chain coordination
- Work with the Logistics Manager to schedule inbound deliveries of source material in line with production needs.
- Track sourced volumes, material quality, and costs, maintaining accurate supplier and contract records.
- Support supplier performance management, escalating delivery or quality issues as needed.
Processing oversight
- Support the Logistics Manager and Hub Operations Lead in overseeing day-to-day source material processing (e.g. crushing, screening, sorting) at the South Wales Hub.
- Help monitor material quality and processing throughput against targets, flagging issues early.
- Support troubleshooting of processing issues on-site, working with suppliers and the operations team to keep things moving.
- Coordinate with contractors and suppliers on material specifications and any quality or contamination issues.
Material sourcing
- Identify, approach, and build relationships with demolition contractors, waste management companies, and other third parties who can supply source material (e.g. concrete waste, recycled feedstock).
- Act as the day-to-day point of contact for third-party suppliers, liaising on availability, volumes, timing, and site logistics.
- Negotiate terms and coordinate collection/delivery schedules with contractors and partners.
- Continuously scan the local market for new sourcing opportunities as production volumes grow.
- Ensure sourcing arrangements comply with relevant waste management and environmental regulations.
Reporting & continuous improvement
- Support data capture and reporting on source material volumes, quality, and processing performance.
- Help identify opportunities to improve sourcing reliability, processing efficiency, and cost per tonne.
- Support the Hub Operations Lead and Logistics Manager with ad hoc analysis and process improvement projects.

Hub team support
- Support the day-to-day running of the South Wales offices and laboratory as part of the wider Hub team.
- Promote safe working practices and help ensure sourcing and processing activities comply with HSE requirements.
- Take on ad hoc tasks and projects as priorities evolve during this fast-growth phase.
Requirements
Knowledge and experience:

2-3 years' experience in materials sourcing, procurement, demolition, waste management, construction, or a similar third-party facing coordination role.

Demonstrated experience liaising directly with external contractors, suppliers, or partners.

Comfortable working with data and spreadsheets to track supply volumes, quality, and performance.

Good working proficiency in key IT tools: MS Outlook, MS Teams/SharePoint, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.

A full, valid driving licence is desirable, given regular travel to third-party and contractor sites across South Wales.
Highly desirable:
- Experience or interest in cement, concrete, aggregates, demolition, waste management, recycling, or similar heavy industry is a strong plus.
- Experience liaising directly with external contractors, suppliers, or partners.
- Knowledge of South Wales industrial logistics networks
- Experience supporting the scale-up of new industrial operations.

- Proactive self-starter: comfortable picking things up, asking questions, and getting stuck in - especially in a fast-moving, not-yet-fully-defined environment.
- Clear communicator: confident liaising with suppliers, hauliers, site operators, and internal teams.
- Practical problem-solver: happy rolling up your sleeves on-site as well as working through admin and data tasks.
- Eager to learn: genuine interest in industrial operations, logistics, and sustainable production, with ambition to grow into a more senior operational role over time.
- Relationship builder: confident and personable, able to build trust quickly with demolition contractors and third parties.
- Practical negotiator: comfortable agreeing terms and schedules that work for both sides.
