Your new company
An internationally recognised business is seeking a SOX Controls & Reporting Tax Manager to join its established Group Tax function on a fixed-term basis. This opportunity has arisen due to an increase in workload and will play a key role in strengthening, developing, and improving existing tax reporting and SOX control frameworks.
Working within a highly collaborative and experienced tax team, you will report directly to the Senior Group Tax Reporting Manager and partner with finance stakeholders, external advisers, and colleagues across multiple jurisdictions. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys enhancing processes, driving controls improvements, and operating in a dynamic multinational environment.
Your new role
As the SOX Controls & Reporting Tax Manager, you will be the primary UK point of contact for tax-related SOX compliance, ensuring controls are appropriately designed, effectively executed, and fully documented to support audit readiness. This role requires a strong tax perspective, combining technical tax knowledge with expertise in SOX controls, tax reporting, process improvement, and governance.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and strengthening SOX-aligned tax reporting processes across the organisation.
- Ensuring tax controls are executed consistently and supported by high-quality, audit-ready documentation.
- Maintaining and enhancing tax process narratives, risk and control matrices (RACMs), and supporting SOX documentation.
- Reviewing control deficiencies, assessing associated risks, and supporting remediation activities.
- Supporting quarterly and annual tax reporting and provision processes, ensuring all relevant controls operate effectively.
- Partnering with external tax advisers and internal stakeholders to understand key tax matters and document significant judgements and conclusions.
- Driving process improvements, standardisation, and automation across tax controls and reporting activities.
- Developing and maintaining calendars, checklists, and workpaper templates to improve efficiency, consistency, and control performance.
- Supporting wider tax operational activities as required within the Group Tax team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
