About the role:
EdStaff are looking for an experienced and passionate SEN complex needs teacher to lead the delivery of a highly personalised curriculum within a specialist Thrive & Belong cohort, supporting learners with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and complex medical, physical, sensory and communication needs.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with genuine experience of working with learners with complex SEN, who is committed to creating meaningful learning experiences that promote communication, independence, engagement and quality of life.
You will be responsible for planning and delivering individualised learning programmes based on each learner’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), abilities, interests and long-term outcomes. The role requires a flexible and creative approach to teaching, using sensory, experiential and highly differentiated learning strategies to meet the needs of individual learners.
You will also lead and coordinate Learning Support Assistants, work closely with multidisciplinary professionals and build positive relationships with families and carers to ensure a consistent, person-centred approach to education and development.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver personalised learning programmes in line with individual EHCP outcomes, needs, abilities and interests.
- Deliver sensory, experiential and highly differentiated learning activities appropriate for learners with PMLD and complex needs.
- Support communication development using approaches such as intensive interaction, objects of reference, symbols, switches, AAC and individual communication systems.
- Assess, monitor and evidence progress, recognising small but meaningful steps in communication, cognition, independence, engagement and social interaction.
- Promote preparation for adulthood through life skills, independence, relationships, community participation and appropriate vocational experiences.
- Lead and coordinate Learning Support Assistants, providing clear direction and ensuring consistent implementation of learning programmes.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, nurses and behaviour specialists.
- Incorporate learners’ physical and sensory needs into learning, including positioning, mobility programmes, sensory regulation and specialist equipment where required.
- Contribute to personal care and health plans, maintaining learners’ dignity, choice, safety and independence.
- Support positive behaviour approaches by understanding communication, sensory and environmental factors and following agreed behaviour-support strategies.
- Maintain safeguarding, health and safety, moving and handling procedures, risk assessments and appropriate care practices.
- Contribute to EHCP reviews and annual reviews, providing accurate assessment information and working collaboratively with families and professionals.
- Develop positive relationships with parents and carers, sharing progress and promoting consistency between college, home and other settings.
- Create an inclusive, stimulating and nurturing learning environment that maximises participation, communication, choice and quality of life.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to curriculum development, staff training, quality assurance and continuing professional development.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
