SEN Class Teacher

Milk Education is working in partnership with a specialist SEN school in Derby that is looking to appoint a passionate and resilient SEN Teacher on a permanent basis.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a qualified teacher who is committed to supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and additional learning needs. The successful candidate will play a key role in creating an inclusive, structured and supportive learning environment where pupils can develop their communication, independence and academic skills, overcome barriers to learning, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs, abilities and learning styles of pupils with ASD.
• Create a safe, nurturing and structured learning environment that promotes engagement, consistency and positive learning experiences.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, using autism-informed approaches to support communication, emotional regulation and engagement.
• Support pupils with sensory needs, social communication differences and emotional regulation, adapting teaching strategies to meet individual needs.
• Manage and support challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies and a consistent, individualised approach.
• Monitor, assess and track pupil progress in line with EHCP targets, individual learning plans and school expectations.
• Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral teams, therapists and external agencies to provide consistent, holistic support.
• Promote pupils' emotional wellbeing, social development, resilience and independence, encouraging positive attitudes towards learning.
