Special Education Teacher JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Special Education Teacher
JOB GOAL: To lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Elementary School Principal and Director of Special Education
Responsibilities
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designated
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the District.
- Prepare for classes assigned and provide a written plan as evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of courteous classroom behavior; insist on a well-behaved class.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitation of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strive to implement by instruction and action the District philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Take all reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Evaluate student progress on a regular basis.
- Maintain accurate, complete records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulation.
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.
- Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms; parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled through the building Principal’s office.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
- Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods.
- Accept a share of responsibility of co-curricular activities as assigned.
- Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
- Establish And Maintain Cooperative Relations With Others.
- Provide for his / her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and / or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
- Follow the District Instructional Management Plan.
- Assist in the (IMP0 Program review, revision, implementations, and systematic evaluation.
- Provide for professional growth by completing the approved District Staff Development Program.
- During instructional time, be able to (walk, stand, bend, and / or move around in the classroom (80-90) percent of the class period.

- Bachelors’ Degree
- Masters’ Degree Preferred
- Valid Mississippi Educator License in appropriate teaching area - Endorsement code 221,
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Simpson County School Board Policy Manual.
EMPLOYMENT: 187 Day contract. Salary based on State Minimum Education Program Schedule plus basic local supplement for certified personnel.
