Competitive, dependent on experience

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Special Process Quality Engineer to join our Quality Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring compliance with customer, industry, and regulatory requirements whilst supporting the continued growth and success of our special process activities e.g. Surface Treatment, Paint, Heat Treatment, Welding, NDT etc.

The Role

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Special Process Quality Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and improving the quality management systems associated with special processes, ensuring continued compliance with customer requirements, aerospace standards, and Nadcap accreditation requirements.

The successful candidate will act as the focal point for special process quality activities, working closely with customers, auditors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

  • Review and interpret customer specifications, engineering requirements, and aerospace standards.
  • Develop, write, and maintain quality procedures, process specifications, work instructions, and supporting documentation.
  • Plan, conduct, and report internal audits in accordance with the company audit programme.
  • Lead and support external audits including:
    • Customer audits
    • Nadcap audits
    • Regulatory and certification body audits
  • Manage and maintain special process qualification and test programmes.
  • Monitor and evaluate internal testing activities to ensure compliance with customer and industry requirements.
  • Analyse test data and quality performance metrics to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Support root cause investigation and corrective action activities relating to quality and process non-conformities.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100, customer-specific requirements, and Nadcap standards.
  • Liaise with operational teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support customer enquiries and quality-related projects as required.
  • Assist with supplier quality activities relating to special process controls and approvals.

About You

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in a Quality Engineering role within aerospace manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of aerospace special processes and associated quality requirements.
  • Experience conducting internal audits and supporting external audits.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting customer specifications and technical documentation.
  • Excellent report writing and documentation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications & ERP/MRP Systems.

Desirable Requirements

  • Nadcap audit experience (auditee or auditor).
  • Lead Auditor qualification.
  • Understanding of heat treatment, NDT, chemical processing, welding, coatings, or other aerospace special processes.
  • Experience managing test programmes and laboratory/testing controls.
  • Knowledge of quality tools such as 8D, Root Cause Analysis, FMEA, and SPC.
