Specialist AAC Speech and Language Therapist

This is an opportunity to combine specialist clinical practice with training, consultancy and service development. You will work with children and adults with complex communication needs, supporting them to develop their communication skills through individualised assessment, consistent therapy, coaching and collaboration with the people around them.

We believe that great AAC provision goes beyond selecting a communication system. It is about developing skills, empowering communication partners and creating environments where people can communicate, connect and participate in everyday life.

If you are enthusiastic about AAC, enjoy sharing your knowledge and want to make a meaningful difference, we would love to hear from you.

About Connect with AAC Ltd

Connect with AAC Ltd provides specialist Speech and Language Therapy, AAC assessment and intervention for individuals with complex communication needs. Our work spans medico-legal rehabilitation, Local Authority contracts for Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) provision, direct work with families, and consultancy and service-level agreements with schools, day centres and other organisations.

Our specialist expertise includes Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), assistive technology and alternative access methods. We support people at different stages of their communication journey, from early cause-and-effect skills and intentional communication through to confident AAC use, social communication and literacy development.

We are building Connect with AAC into a sustainable, social-impact business. For us, business growth is a means of increasing the positive impact we can have, both through our clinical work and within the wider community. As the organisation grows, we want to share our AAC knowledge and expertise more widely, making information, resources and opportunities accessible free of charge or at minimal cost wherever possible.

About the role

This is a hybrid role based in London and the surrounding areas, combining community-based clinical work with remote administration, development and project work. You will deliver specialist AAC assessment, therapy, consultancy and training, while contributing to the development of the organisation and its social-impact activities.

You will have the opportunity to work across different settings, including clients’ homes, schools and day centres, supporting individuals and the people around them to implement AAC effectively in everyday life.

Your clinical responsibilities

AAC assessment and intervention

  • Conduct comprehensive AAC and Speech and Language Therapy assessments for people with complex communication needs across home, education, community and workplace settings, as appropriate.
  • Explore communication, language and literacy, cognition, sensory needs, access methods, participation and environmental factors to develop a holistic understanding of each individual.
  • Use feature matching and dynamic assessment to identify appropriate paper-based and electronic AAC systems.
  • Assess and support a range of access methods, including direct touch, eye gaze, switch access, head pointers and partner-assisted scanning, according to individual needs.
  • Develop and deliver person-centred therapy plans that support communication, independence, relationships and participation.
  • Support the development of operational, linguistic, social and strategic communication competence using aided language stimulation, modelling and other evidence-informed approaches.
  • Select, configure and implement AAC systems, including vocabulary, page sets and access settings, and liaise with suppliers where appropriate.
  • Create paper-based communication resources, communication passports, accessible information and practical implementation plans.
  • Provide consistent, ongoing therapy where required, reviewing progress and adapting intervention to support meaningful outcomes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Working with communication partners

  • Build collaborative relationships with families, carers, support staff, teachers, teaching assistants and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Deliver training, coaching and practical support to help communication partners develop their AAC knowledge, skills and confidence.
  • Support implementation across environments so that AAC is integrated into everyday activities, relationships and learning opportunities.
  • Contribute to communication support plans and help create more inclusive communication environments.
  • Share specialist knowledge and promote good AAC practice with colleagues and external partners.

EHCP and medico-legal work

  • Contribute to EHCP recommendations, annual reviews, tribunal documentation and funding applications where required.
  • Deliver medico-legal rehabilitation assessment, therapy, working collaboratively with case managers, solicitors and multidisciplinary teams. Note this is not expert witness assessment.
  • Develop individualised goals, make evidence-informed recommendations and document outcomes to demonstrate progress and support decision-making.
  • Produce clear, comprehensive and timely assessment, therapy and review reports.

Clinical quality and professional practice

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in accordance with HCPC and RCSLT professional standards, confidentiality requirements and UK GDPR.
  • Monitor outcomes, review intervention plans and contribute to clinical audit, peer review and quality improvement.
  • Keep up to date with developments in AAC research, technology, assessment and intervention.
  • Contribute to clinical discussions, shared learning and the development of best practice across the service.

Helping shape our service

As a growing specialist organisation, we want our therapists to contribute ideas, expertise and enthusiasm beyond their individual caseloads. You will have opportunities to contribute to:

  • Developing clinical pathways, assessment approaches and therapy resources.
  • Creating training materials and resources for families and professionals.
  • Developing our consultancy, training and medico-legal services.
  • Sharing AAC knowledge with wider professional and community audiences.
  • Supporting local AAC play days and other social-impact activities.
  • Exploring collaborative projects and research opportunities.
  • Identifying new ways to improve communication access and participation for AAC users.

We value curiosity, creativity and initiative. You will have opportunities to contribute to the direction of the service and help us develop in ways that reflect our clinical values.

How we work

Clinical appointments take place in clients’ homes, schools, day centres and other relevant settings. You will travel between appointments across London and the surrounding areas.

Non-clinical work, including administration, report writing, resource development and project work, can be completed remotely from home or another suitable location.

We do not currently have a permanent office base, so the role involves remote working and working independently in community settings on clinical days. You will need to feel confident managing your workload, planning travel and working autonomously.

Although we work remotely, we want everyone to feel supported, listened to and involved. We maintain team connection through regular supervision, online check-ins, collaborative discussions, joint visits and opportunities to meet in person for team days and professional development. We are committed to creating a culture where clinical judgement is respected, ideas are welcomed and staff can learn from one another.

Our values

Practical AAC expertise. Collaboration. Innovation. Social impact.
