Job Description
Senior Biomedical Scientist Training Lead | Private Hospital | Full-time, Permanent | Southampton
Spire Southampton Hospital is looking for a Senior Biomedical Scientist Training Lead to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will assist in the organisation, management and development of services within a specialised area of the pathology service, or across a range of services provided by the laboratory at Hub Hospital and support the provision of pathology services for spoke site Hospitals and act as training lead. You will liaise with the Laboratory Consultant and the Pathology Manager, to ensure the provision of the high quality service in an efficient and cost effective manner. Working with the National Pathology Speciality – Training and Education regarding members of the local team who are undertaking pathology related educational training.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop practice including investigation and reporting, within your areas of specialist expertise.
- Analyse, interpret and report information and knowledge related to ideas and concepts.
- Develop and evaluate the movement of laboratory specimens and blood.
- Assist with research and development.
- Develop practice in the application of technology for measuring and monitoring pathology investigations, within your specialist area of expertise.
- Provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information.
- Develop own knowledge and skills and that of others.
- Promotes best practice in health and safety and security.
- Assist in maintaining and developing services.
- Deliver quality improvement with the department senior team.
- Support and enable equality, diversity and rights.
- Acknowledge the risk of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) and understand own responsibility as agreed with line manager in the prevention and control of HCAI.
- Support Pathology Manager with training and development of pathology staff.
- Liaise with the National Pathology Specialists for Training and Education.

Who We're Looking For
- Degree qualified, HNC Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent which would allow individual to be eligible for Associate Membership of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
- Biomedical Scientist with the Health & Care Professions Council.
- Experienced working in a scientific lab.
- Experience working in the independent sector.
- Strategically commercial and familiarity with service developments.
- Experience of working in partnership with consultants and participating in creating innovative solution for new pathology services.
- Auditor skills across clinical standards and departments.
Contract: Full-time permanent
Hours: Full-time, 37.5hrs per week on a rota. Standard hours 9am-5pm, with a combination of earlies (6.30-2.30), lates (2pm-10pm) and weekends (8am-4pm Saturdays & Sundays 9am-5pm with on-call). Rota normally made up of 1 late shift per week, 1 early shift per week and every 3-4th weekend.

You will be required to take part in the on-call rota outside of these core hours and must live 30 minutes of the hospital to be able to respond urgent requests.
