Role Overview
NHS Fife has an opportunity for an enthusiastic clinical pharmacist to provide pharmaceutical care to patients across our Substance Use service. We are looking to support development of an exceptional candidate by providing opportunity to develop and build on clinical knowledge, service development skills and gain expertise in Substance Use. You will support development of pharmacy services and pharmaceutical care within Substance Use services, including delivery of Independent Prescribing clinics.
Key Responsibilities
- Support development of pharmacy services and pharmaceutical care within Substance Use services, including delivery of Independent Prescribing clinics.
- Ensure the safe, effective and economic use of medicines across care boundaries, by the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care so patients get the best possible outcomes from their medicines, avoiding harm and waste.
- Function as a key member of the NHS Fife Substance Use Service and Pharmacy & Medicines Directorate.
- Be involved in education and training of other professionals and facilitating the implementation of local and national guidelines.
- Be involved in local multidisciplinary patient safety initiatives.
- Have a sound clinical knowledge and a commitment to high standards of pharmaceutical care.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications and Experience
- Registered pharmacist with a background in hospital, primary care or community pharmacy. Experience of working in more than one of these areas would be advantageous.
- A relevant post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience is desirable. An independent prescribing qualification is essential.
Working Environment
- Work within a highly integrated Pharmacy and Medicines Service, benefiting from the support and mentorship of experienced senior pharmacists and close collaboration with colleagues across the Addiction Service.
- Be part of the NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Directorate, which serves a population of approximately 380,000 people and is provided by an integrated team of around 300 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Support Workers, Nurses, and Administrators.
Location
- Likely to be based within one geographical locality, although applicants should be flexible and be willing to have occasional travel throughout Fife.
Additional Information
- A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Prior to appointment.
- To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service.
