The Specialist: Commercial GIS Analyst is responsible for leveraging GIS and spatial data as a strategic commercial asset to enable accurate feasibility assessments, automated quoting processes, high-level network planning for proactive builds, and superior market-facing network visibility. The incumbent will lead data analytics, spatial intelligence, network design, and data governance initiatives that directly support Commercial and Sales teams in driving revenue growth and network expansion. This highly visible and business-critical role will drive cross-functional collaboration with National Network Planning, Regional Planning, and the IT department to deliver high-integrity GIS data required for enterprise automation projects, particularly the automation of commercial quoting and feasibility processes. The role will establish and maintain a reliable single source of truth for commercial GIS data while providing actionable insights that enhance sales effectiveness and customer experience.

As a DFA – Specialist Commercial GIS Analyst you will be empowered to deliver the following:

Commercial GIS Data Governance & Quality Leadership

  • Lead enterprise-wide GIS data quality improvement and data governance initiatives to support automated commercial processes.
  • Define, implement, and enforce data quality standards, validation rules, and KPIs across systems feeding feasibility and quoting engines.
  • Coordinate data remediation programmes with National Planning, Regional Planning, and other data owners.
  • Measure, monitor, and report on commercial GIS data quality maturity.

Proactive Network Planning & High-Level Design

  • Identify and evaluate potential fibre network expansion opportunities using spatial analysis, market data, demand forecasting, and commercial insights.
  • Develop high-level network designs, route plans, and build plans to support proactive expansion business cases.
  • Perform high-level costing inputs, route optimisation, coverage analysis, and feasibility assessments for new network extensions.
  • Collaborate with National Network Planning and Engineering teams to ensure commercial proactive builds are aligned with technical standards and overall network strategy.
  • Contribute critical planning inputs, coverage projections, and uptake scenarios to support robust Capex business cases.

Data Analytics, Spatial Analysis & Visualisation

  • Identify, analyse, and interpret trends in network data using statistical and spatial techniques to generate commercial insights.
  • Design and maintain performance dashboards and spatial visualisations for Sales and Commercial decision-makers.
  • Execute complex spatial queries and analyses to support feasibility checks, new product development, and go-to-market strategies.

Automation & Enterprise Project Support

  • Collaborate closely with IT and Network Planning teams on the automation of commercial quoting and feasibility processes.
  • Provide spatial data models, business rules, and technical inputs required for system integrations and real-time automation.
  • Support major enterprise projects with GIS data expertise and requirements.

Reporting & Commercial Insights

  • Provide ad-hoc and regular reporting of GIS insights and findings to support Commercial and Sales leadership. Examples include insights into number of connected properties, buildings and buildings with no active service.
  • Develop and maintain exports of network data for internal stakeholders and customers.

Third-Party Partner Enablement & Data Management

  • Manage relationships with third-party partners and data aggregators who consume DFA network data to support ISP customers’ desktop feasibility and network operator selection processes.
  • Ensure partners receive accurate, up-to-date, and high-quality GIS data extracts and feeds.
  • Collaborate with partners to resolve data quality issues, implement data sharing protocols, and optimise data delivery mechanisms.
  • Monitor partner usage and feedback to continuously improve data accuracy and support commercial win rates.

  • Act as the key bridge between Commercial, Network Planning, and IT departments for Geospatial Data Management.
  • Provide expert GIS input into commercial strategy, product development, and executive forums.
  • Stand in for senior team members when required.

Data Processing & Continuous Improvement

  • Document and optimise protocols for GIS data processing, cleansing, and verification.
  • Proactively propose and implement improvements to data flows and processes.

Requirements

What makes YOU our ideal candidate:

We are looking for a detail-oriented professional with the drive to excel in a demanding tech landscape.

  • Matric plus a relevant tertiary qualification (Degree or Diploma in GIS, Data Science, Geography, Computer Science, or Engineering preferred).
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with geospatial data in a commercial or customer-facing environment (preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in GIS/data analysis and network planning.
  • Strong experience with ArcGIS (including ArcGIS SDE), spatial queries, and dashboard tools (Power BI, ArcGIS Dashboards, or equivalent).
  • Experience in Telecommunications.
  • Hands-on experience with data quality tools (e.g., Informatica Data Quality, Talend, Collibra, Alation, Trillium, or similar) (preferred)
