COPD Specialist Physiotherapist Post within the Community Respiratory Team (CRT) based at Wythenshawe Hospital
Service Roles Include
- In-patient reviews of COPD and asthma patients
- Home visits to assess COPD patients (routine and escalation visits)
- Assess and run pulmonary rehabilitation classes
- Liaise with the MDT in the hospital and community settings
- Management of the CRT (working alongside another Band 7 staff in the team)
- Support the Oxygen service as needed
The CRT provides a 7-day service, 8 am - 6 pm, with flexible hours to meet these service needs.
Role Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the South Manchester Community Respiratory Team (CRT) for an experienced COPD physiotherapist. This role provides the successful candidate the opportunity to work both clinically and managerially, to lead a team and influence service delivery for the COPD patients in both the acute hospital setting and the local community. The CRT is a multidisciplinary team of nurses and physiotherapists delivering a range of services for people living with COPD across 7 days.
The post holder will work alongside the MDT to provide evidence-based respiratory care that facilitates early supportive discharge from the acute setting and endeavors to prevent ED admissions by timely interventions to prevent crisis. Working across community and acute settings, providing support and education for patients with COPD and other respiratory diseases.

The CRT also works closely with the Oxygen Service, supporting the assessment and community follow-up for patients requiring home oxygen. The team provides Pulmonary Rehabilitation classes in the community and is currently PRAS Accredited. The post holder will be involved in the leadership, service delivery, and development of this service.
Requirements
Applicants should have a sound knowledge of respiratory conditions and treatments and be willing to undertake appropriate specialist training within the post.
