The Role
An exciting opportunity to develop and enhance clinical dietetic skills within Surgery and Critical Care Dietetics in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) Adult Acute Services. Working as part of the Adult Dietetic Critical Care Team, under the leadership of the Clinical Team Lead and Critical Care Advanced Practitioner, the post holder will manage a complex surgical and critical care caseload and provide specialist nutritional support, advice, and expert opinion across two major hospital sites.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Fixed-term, 10 months - Full-time (36 hours)
- Base location - Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
- Shift pattern - Monday- Friday 08.30-16.30
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a complex clinical caseload in surgery and critical care.
- Provide expert nutritional assessment, care, advice, and specialist opinion.
- Support patients undergoing some of Glasgow's most advanced surgical procedures, including:
- GRI: Upper GI surgery, Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) surgery, Sarcoma services, Major Burns, and Intestinal Failure.
- QEUH: Regional Vascular Surgery, Complex Urology Surgery, and Major Trauma services.
- Work closely with the Advanced Nutrition Teams responsible for the prescribing and management of Parenteral Nutrition.
- Contribute to the nutritional care of highly complex patients across both sites.
- Support and develop dietetic students during clinical practice placements, contributing to dietetic education and training in Scotland.
- Demonstrate effective inter-professional and multidisciplinary team working.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to do the Job
Essential Requirements
- BSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
- HCPC registration.
- Previous experience in a surgical dietetics setting.
- Evidence of effective inter-professional team working.
Development Opportunities
- Gain experience managing complex surgical and critical care nutrition cases.
- Develop specialist expertise in advanced nutrition support and critical care dietetics.
- Enhance teaching and mentorship skills through supporting dietetic student placements.
- Work alongside experienced specialist practitioners and nutrition support teams.
