Job Summary
NextPharma Edinburgh is seeking an EHS and Continuous Improvement (CI) Lead to manage the site’s EHS and CI programs. This role involves facilitating and coordinating EHS and sustainability functions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and driving continuous improvement across operations.
Essential Functions
- Systematically reduce risks to employees, products, and the environment through risk assessment and problem-solving.
- Develop and maintain site EHS and sustainability management systems based on current policies and legal requirements.
- Support the development and maintenance of Risk Management processes to identify controls for hazards and waste.
- Ensure waste management is arranged cost-effectively and in compliance with local legal requirements.
- Keep current with all new and pending EHS and sustainability regulations.
- Review and assess all new chemicals and materials brought into the site, maintaining the COSHH Management process.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of management on safety and environmental issues.
- Serve as a local expert in safety, health, and environmental regulatory issues, and direct compliance activities.
- Build and maintain relationships with regulators and keep local management apprised of developments.
- Raise performance levels by establishing an improvement culture and driving activities to improve productivity and reduce costs.

Other Duties
- Work with site and group leads to establish and implement long and short-term goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
- Lead site and potentially group CI projects.
Supervision
- Reports to the site lead for CI, EHS, and Sustainability.
Qualifications - Required
- Minimum 2 years' experience in safety and/or environmental/engineering-related positions, with knowledge of chemical, pharmaceutical, and/or environmental processes.
- University or bachelor’s degree in environmental, safety, chemical engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience with pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing, including direct expertise in continuous improvement projects.
- Demonstrated know-how in delivering step-change improvement within a regulated operational environment through Lean Leadership/Lean Six Sigma/Operational Excellence methodologies.
- Motivated, self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, resilient to setbacks, and accustomed to working with all levels of the site to deliver improvements.

Desired
- Advanced degree in EHS and sustainability management.
- Professional certification in related discipline (i.e., IOSH, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or CHCM).
- Excellent project management, change management, relationship management, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to drive and manage multiple large-scale projects in parallel.
Computer Skills
- Must be competent in the use of MS Office, particularly Excel and Word, e-mail, and internet.
Literacy and Numeracy
- Must be competent in writing reports both for internal use and for customers.
- Must be competent in the interpretation of analytical data.
Business Presentation Skills
- Must be an excellent face-to-face and telephone communicator.
