Job Title: Specialist Healthcare Science Practitioner
Contract Type: Permanent

Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as an experienced Specialist Healthcare Science Practitioner to join our busy Cell Culture Hub team to help handle day to day operational activities and act as lead for the section.
The Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service receives a wide range of samples from a large geographical area, this role will contribute to the analysis of samples, helping provide excellent service for our varied patient cohort.
There will be wet work (e.g. tissue culture) and analytical aspects to the role.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
In this role, your key responsibilities will include;
- To supervise/ undertake the processing of pathological specimens for screening, diagnostic and monitoring purposes.
- To provide accurate, timely and appropriate analytical data
- To deliver a high-quality service that meets the needs of the patients and service users.
- To manage training and education of all grades of staff within the section.
- To liaise with other healthcare professionals to develop and maximise the effectiveness of the service.

Physical requirements of the post
Essential criteria
- Health and physical abilities sufficient for the post (if necessary with reasonable adjustments with respect to the Equality Act/Disability Discrimination Act).
Qualifications / Training Required
Essential criteria
- BSc in a relevant discipline
- Postgraduate diploma or extensive relevant laboratory experience demonstrating equivalent level of knowledge
- Participation in continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Membership of a relevant professional body
Previous or relevant experience necessary
Essential criteria
- Previous extensive experience working within a diagnostic medical lab
- Significant experience in performing genomic techniques
- Proven experience of troubleshooting technical procedures and/or complex laboratory equipment
Desirable criteria
- Experience of managing teams
- Previous experience in an NHS environment
