Potential total package value of $394,407 to $530,052 (Inclusive of additional incentives and allowances) dependent on the level of experience and participation.
Full Time Indicative Base Package Value: $344,407 to $455,502 (Pro Rata part time)
Indicative Base Package inclusive of
- Base Salary $204,936 to $274,696
- Superannuation (12.5%)
- Private Practice Allowance – Scheme A (other Schemes available)
- Professional development allowances
- On-call allowance 17.4%
- Mobile Phone allowance
- Generous leave provisions, including up to 4 weeks training/education leave and up to 5 weeks annual leave per annum
- Annual Leave Loading 17.5%
Note: Starting base salary will be negotiated within this classification for the successful candidate, depending on experience and expertise.
Additional incentives and allowances to the base package Value: $50,000 to $75,000.
Attraction and Retention Incentive’s (ARIn) available for this position - Subject to meeting eligibility criteria - (pro-rata for part time)

About the Role:
Position Overview
It is a very exciting time for the Canberra Hospital Emergency Department (ED), with the new ED within the Critical Services Building having opened in late 2024. The new department is a modern, expanded physical space with innovative models of care including a specialised children’s area, additional triage capacity with a dedicated ambulance arrivals triage, and a behavioural assessment unit.

We are a large medical team of over 40 FACEMs, 30 Registrars, and multiple other junior medical staff.
We are one of the busiest EDs in the country:
- We are seeing over 100,000 presentations per annum.
- We have approximately 25% paediatric presentations.
- We have high acuity with admission rates of more than 25%.
- We have a significant trauma caseload.
- There is potential for FACEMs to be involved in the Regional Aeromedical Retrieval Service, the Inpatient Trauma Service, and the Australian National University.

North Canberra Hospital (NCH), formerly Calvary Public Hospital Bruce, and Clare Holland House are now run and operated by Canberra Health Services (CHS). This is a significant milestone as the ACT Government moves towards delivering a new billion-dollar hospital on Canberra's Northside.
The new Northside Hospital will be built on the existing Calvary Hospital campus in Bruce. It will be a modern, state-of-the-art hospital for patients, visitors and its workforce and will provide more beds and increased services.
North Canberra Hospital (NCH) Emergency Department is large general ED. Annual presentations are ~ 74,000, with about 14% paediatrics. NCH ED is not a trauma centre but otherwise sees the full range of Emergency Presentations. There are opportunities to get involved in planning for a brand new, expanded ED within a new hospital building, scheduled to open 2031-2032.
Both Canberra Hospital and North Canberra Hospital are Tier 1 training sites under Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) accreditation.
The position holder is expected to operate within the Public Sector Management Act (1994), the ACT Public Service Code of Conduct and the professional requirements specified by the appointee’s Specialist College.
The preferred candidate maybe considered for a conjoint position in ANU at an academic level commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The academic position will be held for the duration of the Canberra Health Services employment and will be subject to regular performance reviews. No remuneration is attached to the University position. The employee will be responsible to the University on academic matters and to The Canberra Hospital & Health Services / Canberra Health Services for clinical/ research matters.

- Meet credentialing requirements and receive an Endorsed scope of clinical practice from the Medical Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC)

- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
