Specialist in Gastroenterology and General Medicine
The post is funded for 10 PAs. The post-holder will provide their expertise and work alongside Gastro consultant colleagues.
About the Department
The appointee will join a department, which includes 8 Consultants with a wide variety of specialist interests. The creation of this new post is related to the need to meet requirements of waiting list targets, increased clinical activity and improving the quality and timely provision of specialist Gastroenterology service in this busy hospital department.
Key Responsibilities
- Help see in clinic outpatient gastroenterology and liver patients.
- Provide a full range of therapeutic endoscopy especially for achieving haemostasis.
- Provide a high standard of care to the Gastroenterology patients.
- Give consultant opinion, guidance and advice on any patient referred to the department.
- Provide advice and day to day management of medical inpatients.
- Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of patients in medicine department in a senior role.
- Share with colleagues the responsibility to provide day to day management of the patients in ward.
- Teach and train junior staff and medical students.
- Actively participate in both Departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
- Ensure active participation in Continuing Medical Education (CME).
- Fulfil obligations relating to continuing medical education and professional development, appraisal and revalidation.

The West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds provides acute and secondary care services (emergency department, maternity and neonatal services, day surgery unit, eye treatment centre, Macmillan unit and children's ward). It has 500+ beds and is a partner teaching hospital of the University of Cambridge.
Adult and paediatric community services, provided in collaboration with West Suffolk Alliance partners, include a range of nursing, therapy, specialist, and ongoing temporary care and rehabilitation, some at our Newmarket Community Hospital.
