Job Summary
Do you have a passion for training delivery and developing people? We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Specialist Training School (STS) as a Specialist Trainer in Quality Management.
This is an exciting opportunity to deliver engaging ISO 9001 and Quality Management training that directly supports Defence capability, assurance, and continuous improvement. Working alongside military personnel and a wide range of Defence stakeholders, you will help shape learner success, influence professional standards, and make a tangible difference across Defence.
Based at RAF Halton under the RAF Safety Centre, STS delivers high-quality Health and Safety, Environmental Protection, and Quality Management training across the UK and overseas. While experience in training delivery is desirable, we welcome applications from individuals who can demonstrate the skills, knowledge, and potential to succeed in the role. Full support will be provided to develop the required training and professional qualifications.

Job Description
As a Specialist Trainer (Quality Management) within the Specialist Training School (STS), you will be responsible for delivering high-quality training that supports Defence capability, assurance, and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Training Delivery Manager, you will deliver training in accordance with JSP 822, DSAT principles, and approved training specifications, ensuring learners achieve the required knowledge, skills, and competencies.
You will deliver Quality Management training across Defence, both at RAF Halton and at locations throughout the UK and overseas, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, learner engagement, and training excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Quality Management and associated specialist training in accordance with approved Training Objectives, Learning Specifications (LSpecs), Assessment Strategies (AStrat), and Assessment Specifications (ASpec).
- Plan, prepare, and facilitate training activities using approved course materials and contemporary delivery methods to maximise learner engagement and achievement.
- Assess learners through formative and summative assessment activities, maintaining accurate records and ensuring results are processed within required timescales.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert, contributing to the review, maintenance, and continuous improvement of training content to ensure compliance with current legislation, Defence policy, and organisational requirements.
- Work collaboratively with Training Managers, the Training Design Office, and Training Support staff to maintain the quality, accuracy, and currency of training documentation.
- Prepare and maintain training facilities, equipment, and learning resources, ensuring safe and effective delivery both on-site and at remote locations.
- Maintain professional competence through continuous professional development, remaining current in Quality Management, ISO 9001 requirements, Defence policy, and training best practice.
- Support the delivery of training assurance activities, including participation in trainer observations, quality reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Deliver training at Defence establishments across the UK and overseas, including regular off-site travel where required.
- Support wider Specialist Training School activities, projects, and business requirements as directed by the Training Manager or Officer Commanding STS.

Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with all STS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Defence policies, and mandatory training requirements.
- Manage travel, accommodation, and administrative requirements associated with training delivery in accordance with MOD policy.
- Contribute to the development and sharing of best practice across the Specialist Training School and wider Defence training community.
- Support the delivery of other specialist training disciplines, including Health and Safety and Environmental Protection, where appropriately qualified and trained.
Person Specification
The Following Skills And Experience Would Be Advantageous For This Role. However, Training And Support Can Be Provided To Help You Develop In These Areas:
- Level 3 Award in Education and Training (formally PTTLS).
- Experience of working with the training design methods such as Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT), or Analyse, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation (ADDIE).
- Knowledge and understanding of technology enhanced learning (TEL)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite including Word, Excel, Forms and PowerPoint.
- Military background or knowledge
The above qualifications are necessary for the role, and it would be helpful for applicants to already hold it. However, if you show the necessary vision and energy for the post, training can be provided to the successful applicant. Alternatively, a recognised teaching qualification would be very desirable.

This role requires frequent travel across the UK. You may be able to use your own car, or one provided by the MoD.

The above qualifications are essential for this role, and it would be advantageous for applicants to already hold them. However, if you demonstrate the necessary vision, enthusiasm, and energy for the position, training can be provided to the successful candidate.
Additionally, holding a recognised teaching qualification would be highly desirable and further strengthen your application.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and working from home as part of a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement. All office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to site capacity and any required workplace adjustments. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
