Job Description

Purpose of the Role

To support business areas with day-to-day processing, reviewing, reporting, trading, and issue resolution.

Accountabilities

  • Support various business areas with day-to-day initiatives including processing, reviewing, reporting, trading, and issue resolution.
  • Collaboration with teams across the bank to align and integrate operational processes.
  • Identification of areas for improvement and providing recommendations in operational processes.
  • Development and implementation of operational procedures and controls to mitigate risks and maintain operational efficiency.
  • Development of reports and presentations on operational performance and communicate findings to internal senior stakeholders.
  • Identification of industry trends and developments to implement best practice in banking operations.
  • Participation in projects and initiatives to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Assistant Vice President Expectations

To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/business divisions.

  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well-developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function. Set objectives and coach employees in pursuit of those objectives, appraisal of performance relative to objectives and determination of reward outcomes.

OR for an individual contributor, they will lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will identify new directions for assignments and/or projects, identifying a combination of cross-functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.

  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.

Embark on a Transformative Journey as a Specialist Investment Operations at Barclays

Join a newly established Specialist Investments Team within Private Banking Wealth Management (PBWM) Operations, where you’ll play a key role in managing Private Equity, Derivatives and Hedge Fund activity.

Working within a global, virtual team spanning Glasgow and India, you’ll collaborate with high-performing colleagues to build specialist knowledge across a diverse range of investment products. In this role, you will be instrumental in enhancing the client experience by reducing front-to-back cycle times, improving operational efficiency, and driving increased automation across processes. This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of investment operations, handling sophisticated products and contributing to meaningful strategic change in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

We’re seeking experienced professionals from within Financial Services who bring strong proven expertise in Operations supporting Private Equity, Derivatives and Hedge Funds and thrive in high-pressure, detail-focused environments.

Requirements

To be successful as a Specialist Investment Operations, you must have:

  • Proven operational experience managing Derivatives and/or Private Equity and/or Hedge Fund activity - Essential
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, challenge, and build effective partnerships across senior levels.
  • Excellent critical thinking and decision-making capabilities, particularly in high-risk and time-sensitive situations.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, delivery, and driving change initiatives aligned to broader business objectives.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy, precision, and consistently high-quality outputs.

Other highly valued skills include:

  • Strong knowledge of global financial markets, including capital markets, derivatives, private markets, and OTC products.
  • Understanding of financial services regulations (e.g., SRD2, CASS, CBI, JFSC, GCMA, Companies Act).
  • Experience delivering strategic change, including automation and process optimisation initiatives.
  • Professional qualifications such as CFA, CA, or IOC.

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in the role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

Location

This role is based in Glasgow, with a hybrid working model of working a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.
