Materials Manager
J Murphy and Sons Ltd are currently recruiting for a Materials Manager to join our award-winning team at our Leeds Facility. Our team is known for its extensive in-house expertise and continual drive to innovate within the industry.
About the Role
The Materials Manager will ensure a high level and consistent approach to all specialist materials management, proactive stock monitoring, quality assurance, specification compliance, and traceability are achieved on all projects. The Materials Manager role will be mainly office-based, however; there will be a hands-on requirement for issuing materials to the shop floor in line with programme and aiding with offloading, checking for compliancy, traceability, and storing material receipts.
Following the ‘One Murphy’ approach, we’re able to deliver all aspects of the projects we work on. J. Murphy & Sons has designed, constructed, and commissioned projects for clients including National Gas Transmission, Cadent Gas, SGN, National Grid Ventures, on both transmission and distribution networks. Our projects include Compressor stations, Natural Gas and LNG Terminals, AGI’s, pipelines, and diversions.
Responsibilities
- Ensure a high level and consistent approach to all specialist materials management, proactive stock monitoring, quality assurance, specification compliance, and traceability are achieved on all projects.
- Reviewing MTOs, Isometrics, and relevant data sheets, to ensure Materials are compliant and available for issue to the Facility for Fabrication.
- Maintaining liaison with the Materials Team relating to all aspects of material receipts, certification, and delivery schedules to the facility.
- To work closely with Fabrication supervisors to ensure programmes and met and material issues are dealt with in a timely fashion.
- Ensure the SWS/PTS project controls are complete such as review drawings and completing isometric material issue to fall in line with production schedule.
- Proactively maintaining Traceability for Materials to both Original Certification and Client, ensuring all non-conforming materials are Quarantined accordingly and the relevant stakeholders are kept informed.
- Actively manage the Quarantine Register engaging with all parties and aiding with resolution through release or replace.
- Supervision of the assistant and ensuring they adhere to the requirements as outlined above will need to provide supervision to ensure all activities are covered.
- Establishing and maintaining a listing of all permanent materials in accordance with purchase orders / requisitions (Material Schedule).
- Receipt inspection of all permanent materials, including welding electrodes.
- Manage the storage, handling, and issue of Electrodes in line with Company Procedure.
- Maintain certification records and liaise with wider Specialist Materials Team as required, this includes regular teams and face-to-face meetings.

Requirements
- Oil and Gas or relevant related Piping Materials experience.
- Knowledge of the wider organisation and how it functions within the external environment.
- Proactive individual, looking to improve, learn and engage with the wider team and maintain the Facility & Company reputation.
- Able to develop positive working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent Excel skills
