The post holder in line with public health improvement objectives and specification requirements will have a lead role for infant feeding and healthy weight, reducing the high levels of childhood obesity in South Tyneside. The post holder will support the increase in the number of mothers initiating breastfeeding at birth, increasing the numbers of mothers sustaining breastfeeding and the maintenance of UNICEF accreditation across South Tyneside. This will include the formulation and implementation of breastfeeding policies and programmes of care.
Responsibilities
- To be the lead specialist for healthy weight for children/young people and their families.
- To lead on the implementation of local and national breastfeeding initiatives, ensuring guidelines, training and health visiting/early year’s skills reflect recommendations.
- To influence, develop and implement research-based changes to clinical practice.
- To provide specialist advice to the 0-19 Healthy Child Programme Team on weight management issues and ensure they follow agreed guidelines on obesity management.
- Work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team, supporting a systematic cross-agency approach to the promotion of breastfeeding and improved outcomes, especially with women and families from disadvantaged groups.
- To develop, implement and monitor policies and procedures for the management of overweight children/young people and their families.
