The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and innovative Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Acute Medical Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment, providing high-quality, person-centred assessment and intervention for adults with complex medical, functional, cognitive, and discharge planning needs.
The post holder will play a key role in supporting patients to maximise independence, promote safe and timely discharge, and contribute to the continued development of the rehabilitation-focused Acute Medical Service. This role offers the opportunity to work within a supportive team environment where innovation, professional development, and continuous improvement are actively encouraged.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Permanent, 36 hours per week
- Shift Pattern - Monday - Sunday
- Base location - Glasgow Royal Infirmary
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, person-centred occupational therapy assessment and intervention for adults with complex needs.
- Support patients to maximise independence and achieve safe, timely discharge from hospital.
- Work collaboratively with patients, families, carers, and a wide range of health and social care professionals.
- Identify barriers to independence and develop tailored rehabilitation plans to support recovery and improve outcomes.
- Contribute to enhanced patient flow, reduced deconditioning, and improved rehabilitation outcomes within Acute Medicine.
- Support the service's rehabilitation agenda and contribute to the successful implementation of service developments.
- Provide clinical supervision and support to junior Occupational Therapy staff, Healthcare Support Workers, and students.
- Contribute to teaching, learning, and workforce development within the Acute Medical Team.
- Foster a positive learning environment and promote evidence-based practice.
- Participate in service improvement, innovation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required
- Knowledge of occupational therapy assessment and intervention for adults with complex medical, functional, cognitive, and discharge planning needs.
- Understanding of rehabilitation principles and person-centred care within an acute hospital setting.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with a wide range of health and social care professionals.
- Experience or ability to support clinical supervision, mentoring, teaching, and workforce development.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous professional development, and service improvement.
- Understanding of safe discharge planning and rehabilitation pathways that promote independence and recovery.
