The Role
The Joint Learning Disability Team within East Dunbartonshire HSCP have an exciting opportunity for a temporary full time Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the service.
Both our Strategy for the Future document and the Scottish Government Coming Home Report clearly guide our aspiration to provide a future service which focuses on providing good outcomes for people with a learning disability and to support people to live healthy, happy, independent lives within the community. Occupational Therapy is key to achieving this vision and contributes to the overall multi-disciplinary approach by assessing people who have learning disabilities to ascertain the impact which their learning disability has on occupational performance. The post holder will be an experienced practitioner in the field of learning disabilities / mental health and manage a clinical caseload of clients with complex health and social care needs including mental health needs, physical disability, sensory processing difficulties, and behaviours that challenge as well as assessment of equipment and involvement in environmental design. The occupational therapist will work as part of a multi- agency team and engage in team activities such as occupational therapy assessments, team audit and research providing specialist advice to other disciplines, carers and agencies. The occupational therapist will work with the service user on an individual or group work basis to enable and rehabilitate their level of function in the activities to maximise their level of independence within their living and community environment.
It is essential that the potholder is currently registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and has a degree or equivalent in occupational therapy.

- This is a one year fixed-term/secondment
- Full-time
- Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a specialist caseload of adults with learning disabilities and complex health, behavioural and social care needs
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based occupational therapy interventions to improve functional outcomes and independence
- Work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams to coordinate care and contribute to comprehensive assessment and support plans
- Provide specialist advice and guidance to service users, carers, colleagues and partner organisations regarding occupational therapy interventions and best practice
- Undertake clinical risk assessments and maintain accurate clinical records, reports and outcome measures in line with professional standards
- Support, supervise and develop junior staff and Occupational Therapy students through mentorship, supervision and appraisal processes
- Contribute to service development, clinical governance, audit, research and quality improvement activities across Learning Disability Services

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy and current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Significant post-registration experience with proven specialist knowledge and skills in Learning Disability Occupational Therapy practice
- Experience of working effectively within multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environments supporting individuals with complex needs
- Knowledge and application of occupational therapy assessments, interventions, outcome measures and person-centred models of practice
- Understanding of relevant health and social care legislation, clinical governance frameworks and professional standards applicable to learning disability services
- Excellent communication, clinical reasoning, risk assessment and decision-making skills with the ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities
- Experience in supervision, service improvement, audit and continuing professional development, with willingness to undertake or hold a Practice Education qualification
