The Role
As a Highly Specialist Paediatric Cardiac Physiologist, you will work within a multidisciplinary team contributing to the delivery of a highly specialised cardiac service for patients of all ages with suspected congenital and acquired heart disease. You will play a key role in providing a professional, efficient and high-quality diagnostic and interventional paediatric cardiac service, supporting the assessment, diagnosis and ongoing management of complex cardiac conditions.

Key Responsibilities
As a Highly Specialist Paediatric Cardiac Physiologist, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering a specialist diagnostic and interventional cardiac service for patients with suspected congenital and acquired heart disease. You will perform and report on a wide range of complex cardiac investigations, including ECGs, ambulatory monitoring, exercise testing, cardiac catheterisation procedures, intracardiac ECGs and cardiac device follow-up. The role also involves supporting highly specialised echocardiography, cardiac rhythm management and electrophysiology services under supervision. You will contribute to patient care across the wider hospital, maintain high clinical standards, participate in departmental audits, assist with stock management, support emergency and on-call services, and play an active role in teaching, training and developing other healthcare professionals.

- Degree-level qualification in Clinical Physiology or equivalent relevant qualification.
- Registration with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) or equivalent professional body.
- Experience performing and reporting on a range of cardiac investigations.
- Knowledge of congenital and acquired heart disease in children and young adults.
- Understanding of cardiac rhythm management, ambulatory ECG monitoring and exercise testing.
- Experience or willingness to undertake training in paediatric echocardiography.
- Knowledge of cardiac catheterisation procedures and haemodynamic monitoring.
- Understanding of temporary and permanent pacing, cardiac devices and electrophysiology services.
- Ability to analyse, interpret and communicate complex clinical information.
- Knowledge of relevant professional guidelines, including BSE, EACVI, British Heart Rhythm Society and IBHRE standards.
- Experience of teaching, mentoring or supporting the development of colleagues and students.
- Commitment to continuing professional development and maintaining specialist clinical competencies.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and participate in an emergency on-call service.
